Water-Repellent Glass Explained

    I see that you live in Phoenix. I assume the two features you mention are complete and utterly useless (and I agree).

    Come to where I live and you'll love it. (although I don't have the LED headlights w/ washers, I do wish I had headlight washers). In the spring, when the snow is melting and all the sand that was thrown on the road during the winter is mixed in with the meltwater, it's like mucking about off-road. My poor car is muddy from head to toe. Headlight washers would definitely help (so I don't have to go to the gas station a few times a day to clean the headlights and more importantly, the taillights and lower rear window).

    Water-repellent windows help during the rainy season (nov-dec). It's a visibility issue when you can't see the mirrors because the window has many droplets (this is city driving so the droplets don't have a chance to blow/stream off to the back).

    And what do you do with frosty windows - wait for the defroster to melt the ice on all the windows? While we live at the edge of a desert, we have frost on the windows most mornings in winter, and the best ice scraper I've had is metal.

    According to the first post, it's a titanium-silica coating

    My ice scraper is plastic :confused:. I've never seen a metal ice scraper.

    We also use plastic in Minnesota. Could you imagine the scratched glass from using a metal scraper :eek:

    Same here, I use rainX on my Prius windows, it really sheds the water and bugs are much easier to remove from the windshield.

    Amazing how rain drops instantly form little rivlets and scoot over the top of the windshield. Really no need to turn on the wipers at speed.

    I haven't had any trouble with scratching the windows. The scraper is a metal plate encased in a plastic handle. It's thick enough that it's not sharp but it does a better job on our ice than any of the plastic ones I've had. I do have a plastic one that is OK, it's nice to use because it includes a down mitten. I bought it rather as a joke, but since it's always well above freezing at work all winter I often don't bother with gloves, so I've used it more than I had expected to.

    You have a better chance at a Lexus dealer if you do go that route. The Prius is the only Toyota with the water-repellent glass. Lexus has had them for many years now so I'm thinking their dealers will know a thing or two more than Toyota dealers.

    Plastic can scratch the glass if you press hard enough.

    I have headlight-washers on my civic .
    They wont work as designed when they are used while the car is not moving !
    Use them when the car runs at a speed of about 30 mph or higher !
    The wind together with the liquid then washes the headlamps !

    Yes i do,but considering the headlamps being so dirty that you have to use the headlamp-washers the rest of the car probably isn´t exactly clean too so why worry ! :)
    Allways remember,after washing the car is allways before washing the car !
