I've been using my iPhone paired to my '04 Prius for many years now and haven't ever encountered this issue before. I'm not sure I've fully elucidated the sequence of events that triggers the issue, but here's what I think I know.

There is no issue with finding the BT signal from the car with the iPhone (3Gs running iOS 5.0.1) and I can punch in my 1212 code and pair just fine and everything works fine. But it seems that if I reboot the phone by turning it completely off and then back on (even if it's outsided of the car), the next time I get in and start the car I get the old "Bluetooth Not Connected" message. When I check the phone it is, indeed, not connected and I have to re-pair.

I don't think this ever happens if I don't shut the phone completely off. So I'm suspicious that this is a bug in iOS5.0.1 moreso than with the Prius BT system, but I was curious if anyone else had encountered the issue.

Have you tried deleting the phone from the Prius and then adding it back as if its a new phone?

Sorry, that's my only thought - I've not upgraded to 5.0.1 yet and this seems like a good reason not to

I've had more issues with BlueTooth pairing with my '08 Prius since the iOS 5 update. Sometimes, the phone will attempt to connect to the car and simply fail over and over again. At that point, I have to turn BT on and off on my phone and it usually connects. One morning last week, I messed with it for 10 mins and finally gave up. FYI, I work tech support for a living so troubleshooting is nothing new to me.

That's a reasonable thought, Bob, I haven't tried it. It may be worth while, but I get the sense that it's an issue with iOS 5 rather than with the Prius since it only happens when I reboot the phone.
