BT audio streaming is part of nav, so that's why you can't connect.

My understanding us that the non-nav JBL head unit allows for bluetooth connection for phone calls only. You will need to connect your iPhone via an aux cable to the input in the armrest to play music. I've not read a definitive answer to the question can both connections be made simultaneously (ie aux-in music muted when a call comes in, which is routed via bluetooth)? I'm interested as I plan to order a Prius T4 which has this head unit.

I believe any audio input will be muted when a call is answered or initiated.

Can’t be done (see above). Bluetooth on that head unit supports phone only, not audio streaming. The only way to play audio from your phone through the head unit is to physically connect it using a cable via the aux input in the armrest.

I don't know how to set it up so it always works. but if you are in a phone call and go to your ipod app and click play. it WILL stream your music through blu tooth and your speakers. the capability is there, there is just no button for it. the people at the service center may be able to rewire a button or two and let you do this maybe?

I just bought a Verizon iPhone4 (Version 4.2.6) 2 days ago and have already been having problems w/Bluetooth connectivity.

Have no problem pairing the iPhone w/my 2010 Prius IV w/Nav but "lost" the Bluetooth connection 2 days in a row for no apparent reason. Deleted the only other phone I had in the Prius phone setup and also soft reset the iPhone twice. Hoping (but not holding out hope) that it won't happen again.

FWIW, this is NOT just a Prius problem. A quick Google search yielded several long threads (including a couple in Apple Support) about iPhone4 Bluetooth connectivity issues w/cars and other Bluetooth devices that Apple has yet to acknowledge (like the antenna issue). There are also reported Bluetooth problems relating to iPhone range and sound quality, but I am not having those problems.

A OS 4.3 is in beta and hopefully the Bluetooth issue will be addressed in that version of the iPhone software.

Update: OBTW, I'm still having problems w/Bluetooth disconnects a week later. The only "fix" for the problem seems to require turning off wireless and Bluetooth and then turning Bluetooth back on and then pressing connect on the phone display in the Prius. No reset of the iPhone is required. The connection lasts most of the day while I'm using the car but then mysteriously disappears overnight. Just an annoyance that one shouldn't have to deal w/in a $730 (retail) phone.

I only get the front driver side speaker when using BT phone, so do you get all speakers going when you try this trick? But what happens when you end the call?

EDIT: I just tried it and it doesn't work. You only get music out of one speaker and the phone call is still "live."

I haven't been impressed at all with Bluetooth stereo headphone, even with the A2DP (something like that) so I don't think BT has enough fidelity for audio, not even close range.

No problem with my iphone 4 BTW. Haven't lost connectivity yet. I use the stereo cable to connect my music.

I just switched to an iPhone 4S, from an iPhone 4. I'm running iOS5, and was on the 4 as well. Since the update to iOS5, I no longer have a reliable, consistent bluetooth connection to the phone/car. When I get into the car, the phone pairs just fine. I can select bluetooth from the "MODE" button on the steering wheel, and get the artist, track title and duration when on the "AUDIO" screen of the NAV. As soon as I switch to for example another audio source using the "MODE" button such as AM; going back to the bluetooth using "MODE" will result in a disconnected bluetooth for the audio streaming. A subsequent car on/off cycle is the only thing that will re-pair the devices. This is demonstrably repeatable.

I have paired according to the manual at least 4 times now.
Something is amiss here, and it's very irritating.

With my iPhone 4S, if I'm listening to BT, then switch to another audio source, then go back to BT, the screen says Bluetooth device disconnected. I then press the button on the upper right corner of the screen that says reconnect and I'm good to go.

At first I found it annoying, but I believe the reason the car disconnects from the BT audio device is so it stops playing at the point you switched from BT. Otherwise it would continue to play even though you're listening to another audio source.

Prior to iOS 5, I recall being able switch between audio sources and not have to reconnect/repair the "audio player," and unless I have forgotten, the songs would rejoin where left off when returning to bluetooth audio.
I would think the software to be "source switched" aware, such that the audio file would simply pause and not continue to play.

I would be very grateful to someone out there who has a 2010 Version 3 Prius with Sat Nav and bluetooth if they would assist or advise me. Have an apple iphone 4 not the 4s model and have it paired with bluetooth in the car and its contacts etc. Works perfectly. Recently decided that I would like to send music via bluetooth from phone to Prius but cannot pair that aspect of the phone. I see its paired with Carmultimedia ok but that is it. Have an ipad not 3G and whilst at home and in range was able to activate the BT button and got it working fine on the Prius. Music details came up and when trying tunein app all station details, location etc. came up on the Prius.
Just a bit of advice from someone in the know would be appreciated of how to pair the music streaming on the iphone with the Prius as if the ipad works that must also work, I would imagine only I am either doing or not doing something correctly.
Lastly how does one get a Gracenote update as any CD bought after 2010 has no details and likewise with Sat. Nav updates.
    thanks again for help.
