I can't believe there was no windshield replacment thread?
I have a Black 2010 V. I got a small star crack in the bottom of the window that quickly made its way up the window now my window is cracked almost in 1/2.

Any tip's or advice on getting my windshield replaced, And what have you paid to have this done. Thank's in Advance
    Grant

BTW When the chip or crack was small I call'd a local window repair place and they said the damage was to large and even if it wasn't it was in a place they couldn't get to (real close to the wipers) so right off the bat I had to replace the windshield there was no saving it

There are several threads on the GenII re:Windshield Replacement. My insurance company will pay for repair to avoid replacement. Sounds like its time to file a claim on your comprehensive.

Also--have it done at an independent glass installer, not the dealer (most dealers subcontract it out, so you're just paying their mark up).

Insist on OEM glass. Try calling a few dealers service departments and see if you can get recommendations.

I found a Local place that wants $275 installed for after market glass and Like $500 for factory.

They said factory glass has the "Toyota" logo and non factory dosen't
but becides that "THEY" said they are the same.

File a claim if your comprehension deductible is less than $500.

My deductible is $500. So I guess I will go out of pocket for the Aftermarket window

On our policy, windshield replacement is included without deductible. You should review your policy or contact your insurance company and not take unilateral action without first doing so.

My insurance wouldnt cover the window. I payed $385 out the door for a PPG Aftermarket Window.

P.S I found the Window guy's playing games trying to get your business. They call a Aftermarket window "Factory Glass" trying to get you to think your getting a OME window

They call a Toyota window OME glass. That's what comes in your car from the dealer NEW they sell that window for around $580

My understanding from other threads that the Prius OEM windshield is acoustic glass, meaning that it will be quieter than what you will likely get from an independent glass shop.

I guess Im gong to answer my own question. IMO the Aftermarket window made by (PPG) worked just fine. It was almost 1/2 the cost of a Toyota window. My local window guy did it in 1 hr and after a week and a few car washes everything seems fine so far.
One bit of advice. Take you car to a person or company that all they do is Glass Replacment. The first place I went to Jacked me around and tryed to do a bait and switch (preferred Image) in Redwoodcity Ca

This link is insightful about what is an 'acoustic' windshield, from an industry perspective.
