@Dolce... hope the fiats for Australian market are way better than those sold for EUropean market...

Similar to some other products made for export and those are making flagship for the brand.

    PS:

AHA! congrats to your MOM - shes clearly the winner here!

Priuses are great for pulling babes. But you need a proper car seat.

The "17 yr old Prius driver" falls victim and conforms to what is cool in the eye of society! But seriously, all the best with the Fiat. :) Your Prius is now off being sexy for someone else!

This sounds rather extreme. Can anyone else from Australia confirm this?

It may be an age-related theme. Pat Sparks never mentioned it was this bad down under but it could also be a regional thing.

Even in my area Prii are ridiculed but it is very dependent on demographics. In the rural areas and ghetto areas the Prii holds a negative image but in the more affluent and progressive areas it is exactly the opposite. *shrug* If you are surrounded by ignorant people then driving a Prius could make like rough. I'd focus more on getting the hell away from those areas and those kind of people. :)

&$@! I may be moving across the country to go to school soon. Got a couple interviews lined up. Anyone know how Pennsylvania treats Prius drivers?

Come to Long Island. They will think you are odd if you don't drive a Prius.

I find it is not only less educated areas but also faux news areas that dislike the Prius. They are groomed to dislike change, progressive ideas, and anything that disrupts big oil or ethanol. We have some very rich and very republican neighbours who hate it.

The Amish scream in terror, the inner cities look upon it with disdain since it doesn't have 22" rims and thumpin' bass, the farmers shake their heads because it isn't made in 'merica, and the rest really don't care. :) Note this comes from driving a Prius around PA for a few weeks when my dad was staying there temporarily. I do love seeing the Amish on the roads with their LED taillights! :D

No idea since VWs have had their Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) twin-clutch sequential manual here for a while. Ford released the Focus here with a 6-spd "PowerShift" automatic (another SMG) but it hasn't gotten great reviews due to its jerky nature (apparently).

I think it's just the fact that it has to act like an automatic. The original smart we got in Canada had a true SMG. You had to press the accelerator lightly in order for the gearbox to engage first gear. With the 2nd Gen smart that was also sold in the US, they had to include the creep feature to make it more familiar (that and the PRND layout).

Yea Australia has the Powershift in the Fiesta, Focus and Mondeo, apparently they're pretty jerky, but i think every SMG trans will be jerky. Even Audi's S-Tronic (identical to DSG) used in pretty much all automatic Audis in Oz is jerky (apparently).

It's true though, people expect them to act like an automatic, and are left disappointed, if they accept it wont act like an automatic i think they'd be less disappointed by it.

Well, what do you expect from a bunch of convicts? Seriously, you always going to get morons on the road, regardless of what car you drive. But I do have to admit that some don't like me overtaking them and will try to re-overtake me.

That's not gonna happen here in the land of automatics. But on the upside, that means smoother shifts for everyone as manufacturers figure out how to provide a more "automatic" feeling transmission.

I recently saw an article that stated that manuals are now a higher priced option in the US (rather than automatics being the higher priced option), mostly, since so many cars just come with automatics here. People who want a manual are willing to pay for it, so now they can charge for it. Odd. But hey, how am I supposed to hold my latte and text AND have to shift gears? gaaahhww.

btw, the Punta is still fugly.

How about a 2005 Ford Mustang GT 4.6L V8 300rwhp at 20mpg which is what we recently got for the 03 prius still good but just out of warranty..wheeew! That was close. And talk about both extremes, Ha! we still have the 06 prius and use that mainly, but to go for a weekend ride when it's too cold for motorcycling, the Mustang GT is a real blast weekend car! LOL easy to work on too.

Come on guys lets lay off him. He's just decided to change his car and was good enough to share that information with us.

I hope it all works out for him.
