How bad is it when the party's over?

Just trying to think how unpleasant it could be owning a high tech prius after the warranty is gone?

After the 100K warranty is toast.. who do you guys have work on your car?...

Is a normal tuneup just as easy as a normal car?

What if you have a service issue?... Is toyota the only one you dare let touch it?
And if so.. how gentle or cruel are they on the pocketbook?

Is it so reliable that occurences are rare?

actually haven't heard of too many out of warranty repairs that weren't related to an accident or something. don't know the actual prices of parts- but i'm hoping that by the time we hit that kind of mileage, parts demand won't be so high and prices will have dropped.

i guess all in all i don't count since i never pay for labor :D

i don't know if anyone else in the field has the same idea we have... but we were thinking that once my husband opens up an independent shop (or so the plan goes) maybe he'd do all types of work but focus on out-of-warranty hybrids. by the time we get to the position where we could do that, there will probably be a lot of them out there looking for misc service outside the dealership arena. maybe there will be a few shops who pick that kind of work up.

Well when your talking a prius... I would think this discussion could be a major consideration?

Techically.. your barely half into the life expectancy!... but dealers can be cruel... I"ve never dealt with toyota, nor have I had a prius!
