2011 Prius II start up after 3 week vacation

That is good to hear. There have been reports of Prii not starting after much shorter periods of time.

 

Being in the garage I think makes a huge difference.

 

This is good news. I am considering a 2012 and knowing that the transmitter does not have the off switch as my Prius 2005 concerns me. I travel a lot and have my car parked at the airport for up to three weeks at a time. Only once did I have a problem on my 2005 when I forgot to turn the transmitter switch off. I never had a problem beyond this.

Is there any way to turn the transmitter on the car off on the 3rd generation Prius?

Being in the garage makes NO difference. It's not a "starter battery". Cold is good for it (slows self discharge). When it's cold the current it has to deliver is the same as when it's warm, unlike a starter battery.

We had quite a few reports of dead batteries when the Gen3 first came out and most of us thought it was either operator error (light left on) or that Toyota had gotten a batch of bad batteries. I think most of the reports were due to bad batteries.

 

3 times 4 week vacation and every time my 3rd generation prius had rough engine start. After 3 week vacation, everything was normal.

 

Never said it was. Take two cars (regardless of make, model, battery, hybrid or not) and see which one will last longer after X days/months with one on the street in the elements and one in a garage (ie before the 12v takes a dump)

If you are going to tell me the one in the elements will last as long as one in a garage...show me the hard facts. Leaving any car in the garage for an extended period is a much better alternative to having it out in the elements. I said it had an impact...I did not say it was the reason.

 

My 3gen Prius (purchased on Feb 2009) remained idle at an open parking place for 2 full months (15th Sep - 15th Nov 2011). All this time I was in bed for treatment and recovery of a bad back. When I got up and approached the car the cabin lights did NOT switch on as usual (1st concern for a dead 12V battery). The door unlocked normally, but the alarm lights did NOT switch on once as usual (2nd concern for a dead 12V battery). I sat in the car and pushed the power button. The car started normally. Phew!! After 30 minutes doing my errands I returned home and parked at the same place. I retested the "approaching and unlocking" and everything worked normally! Any possibility the car was in "hibernation mode" to conserve the 12V battery? Anyway my little starship Galactica is perfect!

 

Yes, it was certainly in hibernation for at least the lights not turning on. I'm not sure what you mean by the alarm lights. After a certain number of days, only the driver's handle will work, and you may have to actually pull the handle; just touching the handle won't be enough to unlock it. These are some of the things it does instead of having the disable switch as in the Gen2 to save power during long periods of inactivity.
