Prius wheel center caps - getting the right ones

After a few false starts, I finally have center caps on my snow tire wheels. Thought I'd document what I found out.

Toyota has at least two sizes of center caps which appear pretty much the same -- you'd have to know what the difference is before you can be sure you're getting the right ones.

There are two sizes -- one with a 2.25" diameter, and one with a 2.5" diameter. The Gen II prius takes the smaller 2.25" center cap.

If you're buying some you can

    • be very sure they came off a Gen II Prius (many eBay auctions list several Toyota cars they think the caps will fit ... as I learned, they can be mistaken about interchangeability)
    • buy some from another Toyota model provided you can verify they will fit the Prius (are 2.25" in diameter)
    • buy them from a dealer -- about $50 for four -- you'll need to tell them the model year of the wheels -- for example, I needed them for my 2009 Touring, but the wheels I was using for snows were 15" wheels from a 2006 Prius
If you have some center caps to put on, they should pop in very easily. If you find yourself trying to pound on them to try to get them in, they're almost certainly the wrong diameter.

    Hope it helps someone!

Boo also summed it all up very well in another thread with pictures of the two different kinds out there that work so I'll share it here with the pics as well: (http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...-ton-questions-hacks-recommendations-etc.html) Post #9...

    Just a clarification:

That was my post (with pics) that summed it all up.

Erikon had attributed the entire post to me, but didn't use quotation marks or the standard PriusChat style for quoting posts.

Okay! I believe I have a cap for a 15" wheel...not the one I need. I have the 16" wheels and lost the full wheel cover. Since I saw what the wheel looked like without the full cover, I liked it and wanted to just cover the bearing opening with a Toyota cap. No one has talked about the 16" wheel and cap, so I am asking which four to order. The inside diameter is 2 1/8 inches. The cap I got from eBay was too big to pop in. Any help would be appreciated...greatly. peace

I traded in our Gen3 and bought a v so I kept my caps from the Gen3 thinking they would be the same. Turns out my 2 1/8 caps are too small for the v's 16" wheel. Using a tape measure, they appear to be roughly 2 1/2". Want to swap? Mine look like the Part # 42603-52110 shown above.

That's because the Prius "v" uses the larger wheel series for the Camry, Avalon and Solara.

The regular Prius uses the wheel series for the Corolla.

The new Prius "c" uses the four stud wheel series for the Yaris and the Echo.

NO NO NO!!! Part # 52110 is NOT the correct one. It is the 2-1/4" diameter one. You need the 2-1/2" wide cap. There is a thread on the 'v' forums concerning this. A lot of people were mixed up on this.

There must be a better place and price . These are just plastic. For some reason they are painted silver. Acetone will mess them up. Don't ask how I know this. $15 at the Dealer! Outrageous! And they can't seem to get them in???

Here is the poop on this wheel center thingy.

Has anyone tried the eBay ones? I saw some 2.25" ones for about $8/set. I was thinking about getting them, if they're the right size, for my 2014 15" wheel. Except I want to paint them black to match my black wheel.

The eBay ones are fine. I have them and they're great.
