Prius v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon...) Wagon (only) MPG - Please Post Your Results

    Along with this you must consider how you were tackling the grapevine. If you drove uphill at high speed and did not use any gliding techniques on the way down the backside then you could have lost a good chunk of MPG. If you drove most of the way downhill with the engine on then there is part of your problem. I generally turn the heater off and do my best to keep the engine off during much of the downhill section to make up for the poor mpg going up.

    On a side note, I just made the same trip from Sacramento to Chatsworth and back. During the trip I saw 5 Prius v on the way back and I stopped counting regular Prius after spotting 50 and we hadn't even gone 100miles on I-5 yet. :eek:

    On the uphill portions of the Grapevine, we were down to the low 60s MPH, definitely didn't try to gun it up those hills, stayed in ECO or normal mode most of the time, used PWR mode very sparingly. On the way down, I tried gliding, but not sure if I did it right, I tried getting the power meter to the left of the speedometer to register 0 bars. FWIW, before the Grapevine, the computer showed just under 43MPG and on the other side, it showed just under 42MPG. I'm going to check the tire pressure before our trip back up.

    And yes, after getting our Prius, I am now very conscious of how many Prii are on the road. And when one passes me, I also wonder how much less MPG they're getting :)

    Looks like you did well then. A 1mpg drop is pretty good.

    Check your tire pressure and keep your speed down as much as you can tolerate and is safe. Speed really kills mpg once you go over 60mph. :(

    Average Speed: Not sure - probably around 40
    Tire Size / Wheel size: 17"

    Tire PSI (Front / Back): 40/38
    Seasonal Conditions: (please include A/C usage and temp setting if applicable): Winter 18F-45F, very little use of heater, but I use the butt warmer all the time.
    Commute Length: 26-30 miles round trip 4 times/week (one moderate hill). 2 trips of 45 & 90 miles at 65-70 mph (mostly flat). No more than 60-65 on hwy (6 miles one way).
    Hypermiling Techniques: No cruise (still in break in period). Eco mode. No aggressive acceleration. Try to keep the bar at or above 50mpg where possible. Get up to speed relatively quickly (without flooring it), then kinda coast/feather it.
    Other: (this could explain why a tank was bad or good or other unusual conditions like a rain storm, new tires, lots of short trips, etc.). None that I can think of other than the cold. A 3mpg calculated difference is kinda disappointing though. My lifetime average so far (850 miles) is about 42.3mpg on the display.

    I've started using Fuelly as well. I'm hoping my high fuel consumption is because it's winter.

    Looks like Toyota did not make the MPG gauge more accurate. There is no doubt that Toyota engineers know the gauge is not accurate.

    I would rather see the gauge read under than over like it currently
    does.

    On the first 371.9 miles I've driven my prius v I got 41.8 mpg.

    I live in the San Francisco area and work in the Oakland hills, so there's a fair share of using the power mode to get up hills and onto freeways. I use the cruise control and put it at about 70 when freeways are unobstructed, so I figured the car's gonna drive it more efficiently than I am. What I find interesting is roads without a whole lot of lights or stop signs where the limit is about 35, my car is in ev mode so much that it's crazy fuel efficient. I'll have to try using trip b to keep track of how the car is performing on different types of roads.

    2012 Prius vee, model 3 . ODO at 3656 total miles , displayed mpg at 47.8. calculated mpg at 45.4. Displayed mpg is 5% higher than calculated. Flat FL. terrain for the last approx. 1900 miles, average temp. 65 to 82 degrees. Nonaggresive driving, AC running about 80% of the time. I raised the tire pressure from 35 rear / 36 front to 37 rear / 38 front, @3570 miles. The tires are the OEM Yokohama tires. Using ECO mode 99.99% of time.

    Approx. 1600 miles
    About 800 miles of driving around San Diego with hilly terrain
    About 800 miles driving between San Diego and Tucson - combination of mountain and flat desert freeway terrain

    After 4 tanks of gas, am getting a consistent 36 mpg, miles driven/gas pumped. On-board computer indicates about 40mpg.

    Was hoping to get closer to 40mpg actual.

    An update on our Prius V fuel economy. Just drove to Vegas and back from San Diego. A lot of climbing going to Vegas, a lot coasting coming home.

    Cracking the 40mpg barrier was fun! I can't explain the change in the "delta" between indicated mileage and as-pumped mileage for each leg: Going=3.8mpg; Return=1.7 mpg

    Any ideas?

    This car definitely gives its best fuel economy in congestion. I live in northern NJ and recently had to drop off a relative at JFK airport on a Friday evening. This is about a 60 mile round trip in some of the most congested roads in the country. I got 51.5 MPG for this particular trip! note that I was creeping in traffic quite a lot in EV mode. I notice that fuel economy is great but not incredible on the open highway.

    Yup, I have been saying... You may waste time in traffic congestion but not gas in Prius.

    Well I figured I should chime in here.

    I just filled up with my 2nd tank of gas. I am hoping that its just the winter driving condition here in Canada (although we have been way way way warmer than expected) but on my last tank I drove 344.9 Miles with 31.9 mpg.

    This is mostly in town driving with trips ranging in about the 10 - 15 minute range (to work and home). While I am happy that it took 4 weeks (minus 1 day) to go through a tank I do hope that the mpg goes up when the temperature rises and it doesn't drop too much further when the temp drops even further (we have been arround the 0 celcius mark for the last couple weeks which is insanely rare where I live, normally we are in the - 20 celcius range this time of year).

    I should note I drive it relatively light footed most of the time and do P&G but I have a fairly narrow delta normally of about 10 km/hr. Tires are at 42 front and 40 rear but I think I am going to up that to 45 front and 42 rear as I do have the 17 in wheels and the tires max PSI is 51.

    So there ya go.

    I have had mine, Prius v V for 2weeks and logged about 650 miles. I am very happy with this vehicle especially it comes with lumbar support. I got rid of 2005 Prius after a year of use due to back pain.
    1. 70% FWY and 30% city with hills
    2. 43 MPG computer indicated
    3. 42 MPG calculated
    4. Mostly 65 MPH on FWY, 40MPH in city
    5. Temperature in low 70s
    6. 40 psi in front and 39psi in rear
    7. 17 miles in commute each way

    Other: The above total includes a holiday trip from MT to Seattle & return of approx 1400 miles, all interstate driving at 70-75 mph. Hand-calculated mileage ranged from 34.1-36.3 on individual tankfuls on that trip. Hand-calculated mileage on tankfuls for local use has ranged from 40.4 - 42.8. Displayed MPG in the car have been running 2-4 MPG higher than hand calculations.

    Displayed MPG: 48.4 (this was the trip average, between my first two fill-ups, not the lifetime average for all 800 miles)

    Commute Length: 140 miles one way; 50% "suburban driving" - long stretches at 45 mph with few stops; 50% highway driving at about 65 mph; hilly terrain
    Hypermiling techniques: pulse and glide when possible, generally non-aggressive driving as I'm still breaking in the car.
    Other: driving in normal mode

    I'm a bit disappointed with the discrepancy between computer and hand calculations, but this was the first tank I could compute by hand, and I'm hoping it gets better. Of course, either way I'm very excited to be getting almost 45 mpg!
