    Hello,
This is my first post here. We bought a 2005 Prius about four months ago. It has been great, but this morning it would not start.

I pressed on the brake and pushed power, but it only would go into the “accessoryâ€, mode (light on power switch was yellow). If I pressed power button again, nothing would change. The only way to turn the Acc Power off was to take my foot off the brake depress the Power button for a few seconds.
While in the ACC mode, windows were slow going up.

I did a search in the Forum, and saw a reference to a 2004 brake issue that could affect powering up the car, but ours is a 2005.

It is possible the interior dome light was on over night. Could an undercharged aux battery cause the car to not power-up? If so, can I just remove the 12v aux battery and charge with a standard car battery charger?

    Thanks much!
    Charles

Yup, try jump starting it and give it a go.

You have a 2005 -- don't forget about the free roadside assistance!

OK. I was able to jump start my 05 Prius at lunch today. I had it connected to my source battery with car running for four-five minutes.

Prius started. I let the Prius sit in Park for a few (3-5) minutes, then drove around for another 2-3 minutes. Parked and turned it off. Twenty minutes later would not start, again.

I have read that Prius does not have an alternator to charge the 12v battery. How long should I let the Prius run to give it a full charge? (Does the 12v charge off the traction battery or gas engine?) At what point would I assume it is a bad aux battery and have it replaced.

    Thanks.

I would suggest going for another drive, longer and further this time, with as few accessories on as possible. If that doesn't work, take it in for testing.

I'd have probably given it a bit more time than you did to fully charge. But I'm suprised it didn't start even with the brief time you gave.

I think it is clearly time to take it to the dealer. You may have some parasitic battery drain, or just a bad battery, or maybe some problem with the charging system. But clearly something is wrong.

There are numerous posts which describe Aux Bat operation and troubleshooting, thet are also tied in with the recent recall, read them and use search. Off hand, it sounds like a bad AB, go to diagnostics and monitor charging and disch
