I have spent a good amount of time looking for a thread on this so please forgive a hypermiler in advance.

    2011 Prius III

SKIP THIS BLOCK FOR MAIN CONCERN
Backstory: The car is about 6 months old and got 11k miles on it. About 2 months ago I noticed rattling from the drivers side low/mid speaker (front door). It truly sounded like it'd blown, been torn apart. So I take it into the dealership I purchased from and said, "Fix". They order a new speaker and I go back to have it installed. K. I get some tunes going and the inside of the car is filled with colorful language, sounds the same. The Master Tech (D-Bag) comes out and tells me he does'nt hear anything, then he does, then he blames the tint company. I stopped him there and got serious. My windows were tinted 6 days prior... I had been waiting for the speaker for two weeks and it'd rattled for 2 months or so. He pawns me off to another appointment with the other Master Techs team whom I'd been in and said the speaker was blown. Adding that he'd seen the original and it was not damaged.... "So why did you waste Toyotas money and give me a rattle cage back".

    The issue at hand:
After realizing I and Toyota were wrong about the speaker condition I did a little troubleshooting. It's the interior of the door (and since, both front doors). It's noticeable at Vol3 and Volume30. Pushing on the door interior with hand or knee driving it stops. I got three paper towels and folded them to a 1"x4" 'roll', stuck it in the door as closing, at the bottom. Bam, poor mans dynamat? I don't think Dynamat will help and it's 6 freaking months old.

    My questions:
Are any other JBL owners experiencing this?
Should I take it in to the dealer and 'occupy' until they do 'something'?
If any of you have experienced this what did you do?

Note that if you can't imagine this occurring go get a true lossless audio copy (so it's original quality) of Cinema (feat. Gary Go) (Skrillex Remix), and play at Vol 30, Low3/Mid3/High5. For the record I listen to XM 24/7 so it's crystal clear.

I'm really the only one browsing that has experienced this?

I have not had this happen (yet). For the record...I play my system around 50-55vol when good tunes are present

I am having the same issue. I have a 2011 Prius 3 that I bought 10/31/2011. I had the windows tinted about a week or so later. I notice it coming from the passenger side front door. It has been driving me crazy.

I am the sales manager of Toyota store. I am going to have my master tech's take a look at it. I talked to my audio vendor about putting the dynamat in but I'm not sure if that is the issue.

I will update you when I hear something from my tech.

My 2010 did this. It's caused (atleast the ft door panels) by the plastic panel vibrating off the metal door shell. We took my door panels off and applied foam to the areas that were rubbing/may rub the door. Reinstalled and no more rattle/noise with the JBL.

Was this covered under your 3yr/36k warranty for free by dealer? If not, where did you have it done, and how much did it cost? I'm so tired of the vibrations, even with the bass turned down. I'd be willing to pay up to $100-150 to get this taken care of, or ideally free if the dealer will cover it.

My dealer took care of this under warranty as an "adjustment". This allowed them to get paid for r & r of the panels.

Wow, I didn't realize this had ever been responded to! I am still 'dealing' with this issue but putting a 1.5" round roll of paper towel between the base of the door interior and the kick plate. I'm nearing my 50k mark and end of all warranty coverage. After the original post I tried once more to have it serviced by Toyota and I got the same response.... you have the stereo adjusted incorrectly. /fume!

I really appreciate the responses though. If nothing else I'm comforted a bit to know it's not just me... I've have the door interior off and will do so again trying placement of foam. Until now I was convinced it was the window mechanism and that there wasn't going to be much I could do for it. Hope restored.

    Thanks Josh2008 and Prominence

I have applied foam in a few places where the interior panel would rest in the door. I'd say 90% of the rattle from the drivers door is alleviated. Still a work in progress as I'm sure the other three can be improved and I may do something more permanent.

Again thanks for the responses. When it comes to the car I don't think outside the box enough.

Felt tape or felt tape you make from 8 1/2 x 11 sheets of felt available at Michael's (black with sticky backing) could help where the plastic door panel meets the metal frame. I also discovered the fabric insert on my passenger door (above the armrest) had defective plastic welds only visible from the backside of that door panel. Some really good plastic glue to redo the welds worked wonders on mine. I also went for Dynamat:

My 2011 does the exact same thing, I'm dynamating the doors and using foam tape as well
