Hello! Has anyone out there looked into the OBD (OBDII) codes for the Prius Plug-in? I rented a plugin from Zipcar, and tried the Android app Torque (using the Scantool.net bluetooth adaptor). Curious if there's anyone else out there...

    I tried the PID's posted by usbseawolf2000 (I can't post the link).

I can post some data if anyone is interested.

    Best, LqP

Yes, please! We want to know if any of them worked. I assume you used Gen III PIDs.

Were you able to get the battery SOC, Amp and Voltage to display?

How many days are you renting?

Getting the On-Board-Diagonistic II (OBDII) codes for the Prius Plug-in would sure be nice! Getting the Diagonistic Trouble Codes (DTC) and the Parameter Identification Descriptors(PID) would be signficant achievement. I hope someone out there decodes the ScangaugeII Xgauges (SoC = *State of Charge* for the High Voltage Traction Battery) for the plug-in Prius too.

See the bottom link in my signature. He is running the same Android app on the demo PiP.

The motor torque, temps, etc. seem to work.

But the battery current doesn't seem to work. Any clue?

Sorry, no. Perhaps, PiP has different PID for the battery.

Does the SOC% work? Any other battery related info work?

Are there any Gen 3 custom PID's for Torque?

    Hi lennonqpublic,

There are 3 battery packs in the PIP; main, sub1 & sub2. In EV mode, sub1 or sub2 is used. In HV mode, main is used. Each battery pack has its own current sensor so the PID for each sensor will be different. This battery current PID is meant for Gen3 so I believe it will only work in HV mode. Can you please help to confirm whether it work in HV mode?

I have a few PIDs but not tested yet. Do you mind to try them out?

    Hi gliderman,

It is under development here or here.

Wow - thanks everyone for the information. Particularly vincent1449p!

I tried the PIDs vincent1449p provided (see above) - here's what I found in EV mode (data is attached):

"HV battery (main) current(A)" had + and - values
"HV battery (sub1) current(A)" had + and - values that were typically largest
"HV battery (sub2) current(A)" were all zeros.

I haven't had a chance to check the hybrid mode yet (will do soon).

vincent1449p: do you know the PIDs, etc. for the voltages of these packs? Do you know any of the other PIDs? I'd be happy to test them.

    Thanks again!

    Lennon

HV battery (sub2) current(A) were all zeros is expected since sub1 is in use and sub2 should be disconnected. Once sub1 is low on SOC, it should switch over to sub2 and sub1 should then be all zeros as well. What I didn't expect was main was also being used at the same time as sub1. So I was wrong to assume only sub1 or sub2 is used in EV mode.

I have the updated PIDs. Pls PM me your email address so that I can attach the file to send to you.

    Vinvent,

Thanks a lot! I just sent you my email, and I will post my methods and findings to this post once I have it completed.

I should be able to do this right away.

    Best,

    Lennon

I'm really in aw, I didn't know that Toyota give their PiP prototypes to the rental fleet market.

I was too when I found out. Instead of corporate using their heads and giving them to people who would have done thorough testing making use of EV mode and caring about charging etc they gave them to many places who even articles out there admitted they ran much of their time in HV mode not charging when the battery had been depleted.

Maybe (doubtful) they will learn their lesson when developing and hopefully testing the Gen IV systems if improved upon.

I took the PIDs from Vincent and put them in a cvs format for the Android Torque app. If it's OK with Vincent I'll post them for everyone.

    I'm most interested in:

    (1) Torque and speed from M2 (thus power at the wheels)

    (2) Battery current and voltage (thus power from the battery)

    (3) Auxiliary power (e.g. A/C, stereo, heater, etc.)

I'm able to get (1) and I think (2). Attached is data I collected driving the 2010 Prius Plug-in around town a few miles.

Does anyone know if (3) is possible? I saw that the A/C power is an OBD parameter, and it appears to be working using the known PIDs/TorqueApp. But not sure about other aux. power consumers.

Any info others have on any power value would be appreciated.

    Thanks all!

Remember, this is not the configuration for the production Plug-In. There is no sub1 or sub2. It is one lithium-ion battery with four modules in series. See this post.
