    hi all,

i'm new to this forum and i've registered sooner that i thought i would. i've always been envious of prius drivers because i really like the car, but i already had a 2001 camry. i figured that after a few more years, i'd trade it in and upgrade.

well, it's a funny thing, because i ended up hitting a cow on the highway last week (pics here!). my camry is now totalled, and i'm now in the market for a new car... and i figured, why not a prius?

i'm still waiting for my insurance company to finish the claim and appraise the camry, but once that's complete, i'll be even more serious about this.

the biggest problem is that the camry was my primary car, and i'm going to need a replacement soon, so waiting lists aren't really an option. likewise, i don't plan on paying a cent above MSRP.

    so my questions:
    - what are some reputable dealers in the charlottesville/richmond/northern virginia area?
    - what dealers are willing to bargain?
    - and which lots typically have prii in stock and ready to go?

additionally, i assume the '06 models are coming out shortly... will there be any chance for catching a price break on the '05 models (which is what i'm currently looking at)

any and all help is much appreciated! thank you in advance!

I'm not sure how likely finding '04-'05 w/no wait is around here, I bought my used '04 in August from a dealership in Baltimore that I found through washingtonpost.com classifieds. I also heard that I think Fairfax toyota had some on the lot awhile ago. One local VA dealer advertises their stock pretty regularly on PriusOnline.com. You might also have more luck in Richmond.

I did have a good experience dealing with Eric Zollars at Jim Coleman Toyota in Bethesda, but I don't think they have any in stock.

I hate to sound pessimistic, but I don't think there are going to be a ton of price breaks around here, but keep us updated, I enjoyed your cow pictures! A friend of mine in Texas just hit a cow as well, totaling his Corolla, which isn't funny, but has to be worse for the cow.

    Good luck!

I was just at my dealer (DARCARS Silver Spring MD) today getting 50P done and fixing some of the loose ends from my headliner replacement, and they had 6 05's on the lot. I have no idea if they were spoken for.

I went and looked, and they had

    2 #6 Seaside
    2 #6 Driftwood
    1 #4 White/Grey
    and 1 #4 Black/Grey

A couple had bumper appliques and Floor Mats but no other fluff.

That's beyond the two they delivered to new owners while I was sitting in the waiting room :)

I bought mine long ago before the popularity boom and paid MSRP. I can't vouch for what they're asking right now, but DC area customers are pretty tax savvy, and I suspect lots of their potential buyers are aware of the benefits of waiting til after Jan 1.

Koons Tysons Toyota seems to sell a lot, and Alexandria Toyota gets good customer service marks that I've seen. I don't know about any further south, but you may want to consider looking over in WV around Charleston/Huntington, I've heard of people having luck there too.

Check out www.autotrader.com and do a new car search. I used the 23219 zip for Richmond and found a few 2005 models in stock.

    Good luck!

On Nov 30th I got a call from Eric Young at Darcars saying that "today only" they sell me any Prius on the lot for MSRP -$1700. A month ago they were saying -$700. I wonder if they'll just sit on them until Jan 1, or continue to drop the asking price.

Tip: go to autotrader.com. Input your ZIP code and select "within 100 miles" (after inputting "2004-2005" and "Prius").

It'll come up with Priuses from both dealers and private parties, their mileage, color, equipment, etc.---and USUALLY prices (not always, sometimes just phone numbers to call).

I've found cars amazingly quickly this way, and have bought three through this resource, the biggest in the U.S.

i just basically called every toyota dealership within 200 miles of me, seeing if they had an '05 prius available at the price i was willing to pay. i eventually found one, but i had to compromise on the color... but after seeing it, i really like the white, so it all worked out great!
