Anyone interested in a group buy on leather seats?

    Greetings all,
In my former life I was a maxima driver. I got in a maxima.org website group buy on leather seats from http://www.leatherseats.com in the past and was impressed with the product.

    A few observations:
Prius would be easier because it doesn't have electric controls that you would have to cut out.
Prius is smaller than a Maxima.
Seats are smaller and lighter than a Maxima.

I think that it would be easier to do a do-it-yourself install on the Prius. In the process, you basically take off the old seat cover by cutting "hog rings" and slipping on the new leather seat cover while re-applying "hog rings". I did it myself in my living room in about 3 hours.

What is the interest in doing a group buy if I can get group buy pricing?
Here are some prius pictures I hope come out. They sent this to me. I'd want to have someone do a color match for Charcoal and Tan/Brown interiors.

Can't believe there isn't interest in this considering the quality. No, I'm not affiliated with the maker in any way but knowing that you can get leather in the 500 dollar range should perk some interest. You can get single tone, two tone, perforated (holes), monogrammed, etc.

I'll e-mail the guy for pricing and post it but it should be similar to what was on Maxima.com I assume.

I would be interested, however the timing isn't so great. Christmas coming up. Last payment on my year's car insurance, increase in natural gas prices meaning I have less expendible money and have to anticipate higher heating costs.

I was honestly thinking about contacting a local shop to see how much they would charge to get the seats recovered in leather, but that would be in the spring after I had paid the car off (substantially earlier than my contract).

So, I'm interested, but this is a bad time. PM me or write a response here.

simple_in_seattle: Looks like you beat me to the post! I just recieved a PM from Danny stating that it would be okay for me to post a "feeler" on the forum :)

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to post here. Below is the tentative pricing for the group buy.

Also, if anyone would like to recieve samples of our leather, feel free to email me at [email protected] with your name, address, and what colors you would like to see.

I might be interested. How long is the expected install time? Are detailed instructions given? Finally would I have to remove the current fabric or do these just slip over?

Count me in. A installation FAQ for the Prius would be a real help. Thanks for organizing.

My husband and I were planning on adding leather to our new (2 day old) Prius anyway. I'd be interested in a group purchase but will need to convince him :) Any chance of seeing samples? Can these be installed yourself or do you need to take them to a shop? Anyone out there put in their own seat heaters?

I would be interested if the price is really this good. Although I am quite adept at laying tile, acid staining concrete and other household chores, I am not so sure about the installation and would prefer to have that done by a professional at $350 (I think that was the price, LA is not a bad drive in the carpool lane either)

One thing everyone will need to be aware of is if you have the side curtain air bags on your Prius you need to make sure that the leather seats accommodate this feature, as I believe that the airbag deploys from the seats. I have dealer-installed leather on my Prius and believe the seats have some type of breakaway stitching.

    Just a heads up.

That's a great price. I had my leather installed in the summer and it cost 2000$ to have a shop do it but prices are high in the SF Bay area.

any chance your man would be able to provide a nice *fake* suede? the suede looks great, but i cant bring myself to get real stuff. If it was good quality I'd pay the same price, i think

Where are we at on this? From the count looks like a group buy of 10 is possible.
