Easiest would be under the dash, but some people for the life of them can't find the elusive blue wire there so they're stuck with catching it at the A pillar.

The LED bars of the crusing light are much too weak to serve as DRL, so I would suggest you use the puddle lights as DRL instead. Tap into the blue wire next to the red wire that powers the driver's footwell light and it'd be constantly on just like the footwell light.

My 0.02: run the wire from the driver-side dash along the lower door frame, up the driver-side B-pillar & over to the dome light. Finding the fabled blue wire under the dash was impossible for me, and I wasted more time on that than it took to run to the dome light.

RE the black wire: go back in this thread & find the reference to the wire under the driver side dashboard to get the turn signal/parking light power. It's been just too long since I did mine, but there's a wire there just like there's a wire on the passenger side for that side turn signal/parking light power.

RE running the wires to the driver's side: I did that except for the wires that I could hook up conveniently on the passenger side.

No idea where to find DRL power.

Not sure if this will affect it, but the footwell lights do dim once you put the car into D. I'm not electronically savvy enough to know who that would affect using the puddle lights.

Thanks for the replies. I just installed the turn signals.

I did not see the blue wire near the driver's foot panel. Based on the second picture, I don't have the blue and white wire going to the black button/plastic. I only have the blue and white wire going to the left white connector.

I'll try to install the puddle light tonight. I'll start to look in the dash, then the A pillar, then the dome light.

That's right. I didn't notice that you have a Two and the footwell light is only found on the Four and Five. You'll have to locate another light source that's constantly on while driving.

I was able to locate the blue wire in the dash wire cluster. You will need to remove a few of the dash trim pieces on the driver's side. I took a picture and is in this thread a ways back.
[edit] - here is the post w/ pics.

I'll try to search more information online. If not, I'll just use the parking light. Thanks!

Another dumb question, if I understood the thread correctly, it is located on the left side of the driver, behind the mirror adjustments... right? or I have to remove the power button, stereo panel (this is what I saw when I searched for "Prius Gen III dash removal")?

No need to do a complete dash removal. See how to remove mirror controls/dash dimmer and a picture of the elusive blue wire, which is located pretty far back underneath behind the bundle of wires.

Right, as 32K pointed out... just a partial dash removal.

Even though the photo that 32K links to helped me out, on my model 2/II, the blue wire was solid and no other markings. There was like six other blue wires in the cluster! That was fun. I used a voltmeter with sharp probe ends to finally find it.

I thought the color match was pretty darn near perfect. There was a little run and some minor lint (picture somewhere in this thread)... but nothing real bad.

    Yes, both sides are included.

Based on the picture, I tried 5 blue small wires near the pink wire and was unable to find it. 1 blue wire is constant on, 1 is constant on but dimmed, 3 have no power. I took a break after that. My eyes almost crossed after staring at those blue wires. I'll see if there are more blue small wires. If not, I'll try the A pillar later this week. Is it safe to remove the A pillar? I saw on the previous post that there is an airbag. Do I need to remove the battery? To remove the A pillar is just by pulling it? I apologize for newbie questions.

It would be great if you could find it, that would bring the 2011 in the fold. Totally understand about the frustration... I almost gave up myself. I assume the door lights are on when you try this and once you find the power, you press the door switch and wait for the lights to dim and turn off (watching the meter)?

You might want to remove the neg wire from the battery, that would be the safest route. But other than that, pull straight out on the trim... remember there is a retainer in the middle that must be twisted to be released (see instructions). Therefore, you can't pull the trim off with one motion.

    Good luck!

just curious what adhesive do you use to make the glass mirror part stick back on the housing?
im pretty sure someone in the 52 pages asked this question before but thats a little too much to read.

Spiderman and I seem to be the only ones admitting to having mirror adhesive/mirror pop-off problems. I don't know what the OEM adhesive is, but I've been trying progressively more agressive adhesives to keep my mirrors from vibrating BUT not permanently attaching the mirror to the mount.

I'm now up to a minimal amount of Gorilla Glue on top of the residual white OEM adhesive on the driver side mirror, and it's held for a week now.

A couple of weeks ago my passenger side popped-off again so I used some blue tack blob stuff my wife found at Walmart to hang crafts on the wall, etc. and it seems to be doing the trick. I coined the phrase "Smurf Snot" to the wife's chagrin. :)

Well I've finally installed my mirrors :D Only one issue, puddle lights come on when they should be off and off when they should be on. I tapped into the blue wire on the A frame so I'm not sure what went wrong. I've not had a chance to switch the white and black wire yet. I'm hoping that is the issue and if not then time to start the panel removal. Thanks fellow PC peps!!

Gosh if I remember right, one of the wiring's used a negative trigger. I am thinking this was the puddle lights. It has been more than two days since I worked on it so I can't remember. :)

I thought that "blue" wire was only hot when the dome lights fade on/off but as it turns out. The wire is hot when the dome lights are off. Weird thing the puddle lights fade on/off. For example, when the dome lights are fading off the puddle lights are fading on. Not sure if its a pkg 5 thing with the wiring but then again why would Toyota change the wiring. Troubleshoot I will tonight :D
