Since city mpg is 53mpg and highway is 46mpg, keep in mind that if you keep your highway speed down, it will help your mpg a lot. :)

Driving 60mph on the highway instead of 79mph will definitely help shift your overall mpg toward the city number. The right lanes are your friends; the left lanes are not. ;)

For anyone that's been wondering what speed the EPA takes their highway measurement at, this should help, courteously of a quick Google search: "The highway test has a top speed of 60 miles per hour, and an average speed of only 48 miles per hour."

That doesn't include the extra cycle that got added starting w/model year 08 which still has an average speed of ~48 mph but has a top speed of 80 mph. To learn more about the EPA tests, see http://priuschat.com/forums/other-c...uth-about-epa-city-highway-mpg-estimates.html.

How about the OEM tires at 175/65/15? Will there be multiple tires on dealer lots like on the other Prius models?

Should be around 865-870 RPM and I'd expect people wanting better tires will be swapping to Bridgestone Ecopia EP422 tires in the 175/65/15 size or going 185/60/15 to get access to Hankook Optimo 727 tires.

Maybe if the Prius c sells well enough more tires will be made in that size to open up the aftermarket options.

    Thanks for the link.
Now I'll have to read through 163 posts to learn about tires when I
    get my Prius. :(

Of particular note are the new highway test with aggressive acceleration and maximum speeds of 80mph, the 20F city test and the 95F test.

If you're in a mild climate you're not going to be driving much in those extremes and, in particular, if you don't have sustained rapid acceleration (or have to work the engine hard) and don't drive at Texan speeds you're going to avoid some of the big mileage penalties of the cycle.

We have hills, so there would be some harsh bursts, but the top I95 speed is 65 and we have a lot of non-Interstate driving. It's the cold weather that'd hurt our mileage.

Lets not forget the EPA uses regular gas with no Ethanol. Remember Ethanol will lower your mpg and is not your friend when it comes to gas mileage.

It would be nice if the EPA did use a 10% Ethanol blend as many
states it is mandatory all year long, Oregon is one of those states.

If they did use ethanol blended gas the official EPA for the Priuc C
average mpg would be less by about 2-3 mpg, and not at the
    50 mpg figure.

No, the energy content of 10% Ethanol blended fuel is ~ 97% of 0% Ethanol blend petrol.

So the "50 mpg" of the Prius C using 10% Ethanol = 48.5 mpg.
I just think of it as 3% less, but each to their own way of thinking

Thinking about my previous post, I guess I could live without the sunroof, and aftermarket or accessory wheels could be the answer. Hmmm... lots to think about.

Mostly the electronic stuff - navigation, Entune, Bluetooth, etc. This is stuff I wouldn't use and it just adds to the price.

I have been and remain a Honda Fit fan, but in a comparo with the 'c' it is only fair to point out that the safety package of Fit cannot match the 'c' at any price.

How much is that worth ?

    such as?

The "c" has it beat on passive safety. So I assume active safety is what you're talking about?

    c pricing

    These are very reasonably priced.

The most expensive Prius c FOUR package with sunroof I have, with mats, is only $25,365 at MSRP.

The FOURS are already loaded as it is, & this has mats + Alloy Wheel Package: 16" 8-Spoke Alloy Wheels w/P195/50R16 Tires, Power Tilt/Slide Moonroof w/Sliding Sunshade

I agree with that....my 2010 Honda Fit which I think is an excellent sub-compact only has 6 airbags....

Also on the 2010's at my package level it did NOT come with VSC. Even though I believe now it's standard on all Fits.

So I would give the safety package edge to Prius C.

Probably the most disappointing thing to me is that it seems at any level the Prius C doesn't offer a leather wrapped steering wheel.

Guess it would be Wheelskins for me....I've been spoiled now...love the leather Honda Steering Wheel.
