And am excited as heck to now own a Prius!

Bought a 2004 Prius off of EBAY and my brother just inspected and drove it to the terminal for shipping today. It's a 1994 with 91,000 miles and got it for $6200. It was formally owned by the Dept. of Consumer Affairs in NYC and my brother, who is used to driving a Prius, was impressed with the shape of the car. The service records were pretty impressive and I feel pretty good about my purchase. Not expecting perfection but am excited to minimizing drastically the $100+ fill ups in my Dodge diesel several times a month.

Looking forward to meeting some new folks here and just wanted to say hello. This board is filled with an abundance of great knowledge and I know I will be learning a lot in the near future.

There are some great stickies in the Gen II forums, take a look at them. Some advice regarding your new purchase.....

    1) Spend the first few tanks of gas just driving the car, getting a feel for how it accelerates, handles, etc. After you have a feel for the car, then you can start working on how to improve your "high score" for the MPG.

    2) The gas tank has a bladder in it. This is to keep emissions down (gasoline vapor escaping as you fill it up), but it causes a lot of variability in the filling of the car. Long and short, you will never really know how much gas you have in the tank other than what you put into it. The sagest advice is to fill up when you have 2 pips remaining. Definitely head to the gas station at one pip. If the last pip is flashing, you need gas right away. It is jokingly referred to as the "guess gauge" instead of "gas gauge".

    3) If the transaxle fluid hasn't been changed, please do so. There are threads in the maintenance section regarding this. But long and short, Toyota says the fluid is "lifetime", but lifetime might mean 120,000 miles or 150,000 miles and then it is an expensive replacement cost. Change it every 30k miles and you may never need to spend thousands on a transaxle.

    ENJOY!!!!

I built a low 10sec Fox body (F8LPONY) then moved on to GM LS1 and 5.3L trucks. Now I drive a Prius and couldn't be happier. :)

    Welcome to the forum.

    Welcome aboard! :welcome:

    I hope you meant that it's a 2004 rather than 1994.

Like the others have said, get comfy because after you've read the manuals, there's a lot more information on this boards. If it didn't come with manuals, you can download them from Toyota or I think someone posted them around here somewhere.

Welcome and enjoy the new to you Prius. I don't think you can go wrong with a properly maintained preowned Prius.

Thanks guys and yes, I meant 2004. The shipper said it would be in here in about 10 days. Don't know how I'm going to wait that long.

Welcome...I too drag race. The wife needed great gas mileage to help make the payments toward the car. We looke at the several 40 mpg cars, but around, the majority of her driving the Prius could not be beat. She is saving $200 a month when gas is $3.50 a gallon and only spending $80 more a month for the lease payment. We looked at used cars, but the payments were not affordable for our means. In the fall I had sold my 60.1 mpg 3 banger Geo since I replaced it with a 46 mpg Neon with 4 drs and AC...and I drag race it in the United Manual Transmission Racers series. I even used the Geo 3 times back in 09 and made money twice! The Geo ran 19.9s, the 95 Neon runs 15.9s and my semi retired SRT4 Neon runs 12.17 at 117...and gets a best of 33 mpg at 55. My most successful car is a lowly 84 Horizon with neasrly 300,000 miles that only gets 24 mpg. I was 2nd in pts with the SRT4 for 2010 and won the Stick Shift Nationals while 2011 only saw a 3rd place finish. The SS class I race in is an all run class...in fact the first car I ever beat with the Geo was a 7.70 mid 60s Vette. He ran 7.702 at 170+ to my 19.902 on 19.90 dial...I beat him with a .030 RT to his .036 one!

I'm the only guy that drives my cars to the track and home....all the decals are on magnetic backing and removed for street driving. All use DOT tires and pump gas except the Horizons slicks. You can see what I race against.

    Have fun!
