    My first highway trip experience:

    620 kms
Home (Eastern Ontario) to west of Toronto then to Guelph then back to home.

Westbound: headwinds all the way, temp -1C
    Some city driving at destination
Eastbound: crosswinds to tailwinds, temp +3C

100 kph with cruise control; new winter tires on 15 inch rims (delta between speedometer and GPS was 1 kph)

ScanGauge and home spreadsheet results for tank-full: 4.9L/100 kms
Computer readout on dash result: 4.6L/100 kms

    Cheers

    My second highway trip experience:

    204 kms

Home to "North of Hwy 7" (Canadian Shield territory) and return.

    Wind: negligible. Temp: -10C

Loop route was secondary highways at 90 kph with about 10% at 60 kph driving thru small towns.

ScanGauge results: 4.8L/100 km (49 USMPG)
MFD result: 4.5L/100 km (52.27 USMPG)

    Cheers

You're gonna have so much fun when temps warm up and fuel blend changes. :)

Enough of snow and cold, I am ready to try hypermileing on some warm dry roads.

    1. Not only the higher temperatures will give you better mileage, but also the increased experience with the highway driving techniques.

Wow, that's impressive! (on a Gen 2 too!) Drop it to 90 and it'll be closer to 4.6-4.7 and 80 down to 4.4-4.5L/100km (though I've seen as low as 4.0L/100km on the instant FE gauge at 80km/h).

The best I could squeeze out of my '07 HCH (back in Aug 2008) was 4.26L/100 km (1043.2 km and 44.423L to top-off), so I hope to do at least as well as that this summer in my Prius

It'll be a bit tougher with the Gen 2 Prius because of the rubber bladder inside the fuel tank but it should be doable (my tank record is 902km on 38 or 40 litres.. i'll have to check my spreadsheet)

Agree 100%. I've 'filled up' three times and the most I put in before the 'click' of the pump shut-off was 31.68L (with one 'pip' showing)

    :eek:WOW, something to aim for!

lol. I didn't think my record was that impressive especially since others have hit 1,000km or more (see the 600 miles and 700 miles thread). I'm aiming for 1,000km on my Gen 3 (currently sitting at 955km from last year which was actually mostly highway, believe it or not. My all-city record is 950km so pretty close)

best so far. I have made trips 50km or more for 3.6 L/100KM, but then I have to get home :). Average is more like 4.3

I wish I could see those figures on my display, especially the the outside temp of 17.

Here's my current best tank. In hindsight I wish I had driven an extra few km to make it tick over to 1100 km. I re-fueled right at the top of a big hill (350 ft elevation), so I could easily have driven further as the next 5k would all have been downhill.

I filled up today, to the first fuel pump cut-off click.

Temp today (for effect on fuel cell bladder comparison) is -3C.
    Last fill-up temp was +1.3C.

    693.7 km's traveled since last fill-up.

    Spreadsheet method: 4.37L/100 km
    MFD: 4.6L/100 km
    ScanGauge: 5.0L/100 km

My guess, about 4.6 to 4.7........I need more temp/fill-up data points to get a handle on things.

    Big picture: 2252 km's traveled since purchase; 108.080 liters to current 'top-up'; 4.799L/100 km's (49.013 USMPG)

    Cheers

    Mike

The bladder is annoying. After driving 50km or so on the low fuel light, temps near +5°C for daytime highs, the fuel pump cut off at 29 litres!!
