I need to replace the A/C compressor on my '02 Prius (230,000 mile original battery, fingers crossed). To do it right, I also need to replace the drier that's part of the radiator on this car. The manual says to remove the radiator which requires removing the bumper! Is that really necessary or is there a way to replace the drier from underneath? Looking for some advice.

I replaced my compressor about a year ago and replaced the bag of desiccant in the drier. It get to the dryer I just removed the upper radiator mounts and shifted the radiator to access the dryer from below. I bought kit off ebay and the bag ended up being longer than the original. Had to borrow my wife's sewing machine and shorten it up! :)

    Good luck!

That's good news...On a related note...I know I have to add PAG 46 to the compressor, any idea how much?

I'm not sure but I think my new compressor had the oil pre added. After I had it all installed I just took it to a place that did a/c and they charged it up for me for around $80. Hope they added the oil if it needed it! Its been working ever since.

You did not say if the compressor failed or not? If the compressor failed you also need to flush the completer system including the evaporator and condensor.

The compressor didn't fail, the clutch is slipping so I don't expect metal filings in the system. That's a good point though!
