I just bought a 2012 PriusIII and talked to dealer service department, was told they would do it for $69.95, talked to salesman who I bouht it from and he got the shop to do it for free. It does take only a few minutes to do.

I was told that the service dept techs are not allowed to change the seat belt warning beep, but right there in the owner's manual it says that is one of the changes they can make, at least with regard to the speed activated seat belt beep. I asked ahead of time that my reverse beep be set to sound only once, but it wasn't done. I didn't notice until the next morning, which was when I put the car in reverse for the first time. I think I can convince the dealership to take care of it at no charge, especially when I show them a couple of plugs they were supposed to install in the frame, but left in the package in the glove box.

The ScanGauge can do both the reverse beep and the seat belt. The codes for it can be found in this forum. I just installed my 2010's scangauge on my new pip and the first thing I did was disable the reverse beep. Ahhhh!

I have the Ultragauge it's like the Scangauge but smaller and matches the console better. Does anyone know if you can cancel the reverse beep with it? Thanks~

Got this ELM USB OBD Scanner http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005FEGP7I/ref=ox_ya_os_product from Amazon for $18.69 including shipping.

Tried the JerryLoz program- said "ELM not connected" so that was a no-go.

Downloaded Putty, set the session as a com port connect via com 3 at 38400 baud. Executed the commands above and all worked well. Only modification from the instructions was AT SH 07C0 is changed to AT SH 7C0 (I took out the zero to the left of the 7).
Nice thing is you can run Putty with the ELM device plugged in to the laptop only to check the commands prior to lugging the laptop out to the car. If you have a bad command like AT SH 07C0 the ELM responds with a "?"., when the correct command is sent (AT SH 7C0" you get an "OK".
The whole procedure w/Putty was pretty simple- didn't even take 5 min inside the car. Backing up is less stressful now without that annoying Beep...Beep....Beep...Beep..

Once on the Amazon page- hit the link that says "6 New from $10.29" then you'll see all the vendors that sell that product and their shipping charges. I purchased mine from "HDE" at the bottom of the list. The device is $15.65 shipping is $2.99, total is $18.64. I've used HDE before for other products and they've been reliable...

Tried the Jeryloz program--that does not work--tried Putty and I get to the ">" screen, -- I have the Prius on and the Elm plugged in (got the $15 one on Amazon), but when I put commands in, the cursor just jumps back to the beginning--characters entered remain as though its not sending the commands. I get no "OK" or no "?". I did change the com to 38,400 baud rate in putty. Also tried changing the actual com port baud rate in the computer as well, still same thing. Any ideas as to what's wrong?

I tried Windows 7, 32 bit and 64 bit and XP (I have three laptops) and same issue--I get the ">" in putty but does not seem to be accepting any commands--when I type and enter, the cursor just jumps back to the beginning of the line.

It works on all versions of the 2012 Prius.

Some can use the Jeryloz program- for others that doesn't work with their ELM unit.
Some (like me) must use Putty- but once up and running, it's pretty straight forward.

Did you start a "serial" session in putty?
Do your Putty com port settings match the settings in device manager for your serial communications device?

    Thanks for the instructions!

What's the command to disable the seat belt beep for the driver side using the terminal method?

    Thanks,
    M

Yes rob--I did--that's exactly what I did. Computer seems to recognize the device, just can't get the device to communicate with da Prius!
