Anybody aware of a five led strip that will work on a V headlight? Trying to work a DRL solution.....

I don't know of such an LED strip, but I, too, am interested in adding a DRL solution. What did you have in mind (e.g. where did you think to get power from)?

One thing I've wondered is whether all US Prius v's have the DRL function available, but the switch isn't there to activate it. I don't know how to find out, but I find it hard to believe that they actually manufacture the car differently for the US than for Canada. Best example for that is that the dashboard has all the signals for adaptive cruise control (you can see them when the Sun hits the dashboard just right), even if I have a v 3, which doesn't even have the option of getting the advanced tech package. So I figure there must be a lot available under the hood that we could activate after-market. Only...how do we find out?

I'm going to follow along too as I'd really like this as well. I think it certainly makes sense that possibility is there. Has a shop manual been written yet? I'm well out of my league under the Prius hood. W

If you're going to do it then be sure to make it clean and classy. The Audi LED look is already played out. It is now featured on Chryslers and Kia Soul. :(

Add me to the list. I hope someone comes up with a simple mod for those of us who want the DRL option (aside from buying one in Canada etc). Leaving my LED headlights on makes me a little weary. I use my car for work. It's a constant on and off visiting 4 to 5 patients a day. It can't be good for the headlights. I'll keep them on until I find a better solution. Such a disappointment since Toyota decided last minute to discontinue them for the US market (not to mention the stalk had the option to turn them on and off)

    Please keep us posted.

That was a low blow...Kia Soul? Now that you have forever associated (and correctly I might add) LED strips with the modern equivalent of an AMC Gremlin I am holding the order. There is room in that vertical light bar for something.....

    :( I didn't mean it that way.

There is always the option for an LED light bar. It's clean and easy to install! :D

LED DRLs are way overplayed, like as of 2 years ago. The ones on Kias and Chryslers look like crap, so by nature, any DIY variety is going to look even worse.

The only ones that look tolerable IMO are the ones on the Lexus', where it's just a clean, straight line of LEDs. But still, it's overplayed.

Why not just a bright LED parking light replacement and leave it on? I never like the yellowish parking light next to the LED headlight anyway. I have trolled IJDM and cannot find....anybody know a source?

The other day, I saw a later model Prius (not V) and notice a bright dot on the bottom of the vertical light. I took a closer look and I think I saw 4 leds in a square layout of 2x2. So I assume that it's the DRL of that model and perhaps the whole lamp will fit the V??

I'm also working on a DIY DRL solution. I don't particularly care whether they're "overplayed" - I'm primarily concerned with making my car VISIBLE to oncoming drivers whenever my headlights are off.
I just ordered some relatively small and inexpensive 8-LED strips, and I hope to wire them up this weekend. Whenever I get to it, I'll post details in this thread, and I'll try to remember to post here too.
Good luck, and I'll look forward to seeing others' solutions,
    Andy

I replaced the parking lights with LEDs when I had HIDs installed but its not bright enough to be noticeable during the day. Maybe they have some that are brighter than the ones I have. I think DDM provides the LEDs for IJDM and lucky for me DDM is in San Diego. I may have to stop by there and see if they have a brighter one.

When you pop up the fuse box lid, you will see one slot on the bottom right which says, "DRL module". I saw 3 pins underneath and not sure if it will be any uses.

I saw that slot in the fuse box... For some reason I didn't think it would work. I tested several of the fuse slots for voltage, with the car running, and maybe the DRL slot was cold? I'll check again tomorrow - I'm going to attempt the installation of my cheap LED DRLs. I'll let you know how it goes!
    Andy
Edit - I didn't see any pins underneath - where was that? Under the whole box? How do you tell they go with the DRL slot?

The Prius guys have put this 194 style bulb in their parking light position...Will this fit in the V?? If so, just install and leave your parking lights on.[IMG]

That one I just ordered but may be too big in diameter so once I get them I will report back. I installed the one below in my V5+ATP:

I haven't got a chance to try it at night though.

I have the same ones tanasit installed. They look good at night. Again, not bright enough for a DRL solution though.
