Actual MPGs - Anyone Filled Up, Calculated?

    It all depends on what kind of driving you do; I average about 42-43 MPG in my 07 Prius, and that's because almost all my driving consists of little 5-6 mile trips to my son's school, the grocery store, the post office.

    If I were to start consistently making 20-25-mile trips around Nashville (not hard to do, the city is very spread out), my MPG would improve, but I've never been able to hit 50MPG in the 5 years I've had my Prius.

    And tracksyde takes the lead in the PiP race... at 87.3

    Of course in this race the later ones to post are probably doing better. The longer it takes to use a tank the slower it is to post and the better the MPG. (I did something similar to ryogajyc.. my first "fuel" was a partial just to get it so my later ones would post. Maybe sometime in april I'll get to post my next one (last was in October).

    Hopefully we'll be able to put kWr in a more formal manner. until then maybe PHEV owners can just enter kWh data as a note (which is what I did for mine)

    It's been frequently noted that MUCH depends on all of the following variables and then some:

    An individual's particular driving habits, a COUPLE's driving habits if the vehicle is shared, trip-types, plug-in / recharging tendencies and capabilities - some can re-charge at work ... others can't - type of roads and terrain, traffic conditions, weather conditions - especially as related to average ambient temp - etc, etc, etc.

    I "refuse" to believe the same thing as do you. If you were to "rent" one for a couple of weeks or more and not change your driving tendencies / re-charging habits, perhaps YOU would become that "someone" ...

    What's the warranty on the battery pack in the Enginer kit?

    4kWh usable from the 4kWh Enginer kit? Isn't that 100% depth of discharge?

    To be fair, you are selling the "cheap nice person" Enginer kit and instead getting a Prius PHV right?

    With those plugin miles under your belt, I bet you'll do great in Prius PHV.

    Interesting our results are similar to yours. Drove home 140 miles, several highway trips, 18% EV, first tank. With Level 2 charging capable during the day, we'll see what happens with better EV usage. Yesterday during a 16 mile trip, when EV was exhausted, I drove pulse and glide in HV and still got over 65mpg. We are still experimenting and will post new data as driven.:spy:

    2 year warranty standard, 5 year optional ($995 extra).

    They state batteries last 6-8 years. My friends is on year 3 and not seen any loss.

    4kw is the usable, did not find a solid statement on usable but from their slides it seems 80% is used (so maybe its really 5kw of batteries).

    4kWh Enginer kit would cost $4,500 with the 5 years warranty. That makes the Prius PHV's 10 years warranty look like a steal deal, especially after the $2,500 tax credit. I don't think conversion qualifies for it.

    The only thing is Prius PHV does not come stripped like the Prius II.

    It looks like Prius PHV's calculated MPG is very close to the actual MPG. How about the converted plugins?

    My friend is getting close to 100mpg but I have not idea how the car matches with actual. (Think that is on the 10kw kit, don't remember the MPG on the 4kw kit)

    Don't know about the fed credit for the conversion kits, but it does qualify for the state credit in Co (At least the ones installed at Boulder conversions do). So in CO, so a 4kw kit, installed, is only $750 net cost to own (with normal warranty), $1800 with 5 year.

    For someone on a budget a prius + conversion kit seems a very viable option. I suggested it to a friend who was looking volt vs prius and for whom a used prius +kit means no loan..

    Finally joined Fuelly. My second fillup was 488.1 miles, 8.794 gallons for an average of 55.5 miles. I remembered to record the EV/HV ratio screen on that fillup: 71 miles EV & 415 miles HV, 22 Kwh & 8g used, and it claims I saved 1.8 gallons.

    Clearly there's some fuzzy math going on with the EV/HV ratio screen...

    Hi - this is great - are these MPG for the PIP or regular Prius? - I was expecting mid 80's for the PIP if it is in the 60's then I will get a regular Prius.

    MPG will depend very heavily on your driving and charging patterns.
    You can get mid 80's (maybe even 100) if you do a more EV, 60's if you do less.

    For me, it's a PiP. I have a 46 mile commute to work that doesn't allow as much EV-only use, so my MPG's are lower than other people. If I was in a regular Prius, my MPG would be between 45 and 47. That 20% or so increase in MPG is worth the extra money I paid for the car. Other people are reporting much higher MPG due to their commute distance being better for EV use.

    Sadly, it was someone else. If it was this past weekend, I was in L.A. If it was the previous weekend (Saint Paddy's day), then I was up in Concord...

    I'm usually on the Peninsula side of the bay.

    Using 48 as the starting point, I reckon that's a 33% increase.
    64/48=1.33

    Alternatively, using 64 as the starting point, 48 would be a 25% loss.
    48/64=0.75
