I'm interested in buying a 2011 prius III. I'm curious what the cargo length is between the rear hatch and the back of the driver's seat (2nd row folded down). Does anyone know this specification?

I can only find volume information online... :(

I can give you a rough number: around 5'-6".

I know with the back seat down I can't stretch out, say for in-a-pinch camping, and I'm just shy of 6'. Also transported a 6' step ladder one time, it was doable by having the front end of the ladder sit on the armrest between the 2 front seats.

It is almost exactly 8' from the back of the hatch to the stereo face on the dashboard of a GenII. The GenIII shouldn't be much different. I put 8' steel t-posts in my car all the time so the measurement is pretty accurate. :)

Depending on how far back you push your seat I would guess about 5.5' of so.

Hmm... yes, so that ballpark was what I was figuring.

I frequently travel with my keyboard, and it's case is 62". It was able to fit into a 2007 prius fine, and had about an inch to spare.

I just transported a 10X11 metal shed from sears to my home, as well as the floor kit. The box was 68 inches long and 37 inches wide, and I had to move the drivers seat about half way from it's front lock to its rear lock.

When the guy saw the car I had he just laughed, certain that there was no way it would fit. I then lowered the rear seats, and moved the front seats forward a bit, and it slid right in. You should have seen the look on his face. He was just dumbfounded.

Once again the Prius comes through.

Yes, I can confirm I have carried 6 foot fence material (alot) in the back of my prius last fall. 8 foot material also fit nicely.

When we 1st got the car we got plants for the yard and my wife told me there was no way we were going to fit all the plants I got, and we did (without any problem)...

Never measured but it has surprised me for what it can haul.

My wife went looking for a new wash machine early spring and thought that if we found what she wanted, we would drive home and get the truck.

Found one and told the sales person that I would have to return later with the truck. He suggested that we try to see if it fit.

It was tight but the sucker fit. Just had to use a bunge cord to hold the hatch down.

A few weeks back there was a recliner on sale that my wife wanted. It did have the removeable back rest and fit well enough to completely close the hatch.

It turns out to be a darn fine little truckster.

Hmmm...this thread makes me wonder why Japan never split the rear hatch for added loading and cargo flexibility? Maybe it could be an option for a future model. Sorry I side-tracked this thread; no replies to split hatch needed.

I have to admit that my G3 has hauled more than a few things that I thought I was going to have to use my truck for. I've always liked hatchbacks for that.

My only 2 principal complaints for pressing a G3 into service as a cargo carrier are it's very diminutive cargo rating, and the fact that my Harley has a higher towing capacity. I can't remember exactly what it's rated to carry, but I remember that I was shocked at how small it was...like way less than 1,000 lbs including pax.

    Hello Prius owners,
Can you kindly let me know the exact dimensions of the Prius cargo area (depth, width and the height before the hatch starts to slant off)?
Please note: I would like to know the dimensions with the 2nd row seat up.

    Thanks for your help!

cargo space with the rear passenger seats down

    66’ long x 46’ wide

But because it is a hatchback and the truck door tapers down, for tall object, it needs to be in the rear passenger section, and that is
    30’ long x 46’ wide x 26’ high
