What is greener: premium or regular gas?

    Asking whether premium or regular gas is "greener" is like asking whether Coke or Pepsi will rot your teeth more slowly. It's like asking whether you'd rather take cyanide or strychnine. It's like asking whether you'd rather be bitten by a cobra or squeezed by a python.

    What's greener is an EV juiced up by wind or solar. Or greener yet, a bicycle powered by peanut butter sandwiches. Depending on how efficient your bike is, and how you make the sandwich, I figure about eleven miles per pbs.

    All true, but gasoline is to stay for awhile yet, and I don't want to see a potential fuel efficient car be discounted because people are pennywise but pound foolish over the price per gallon. The skyactiv Deimos(Mazda2) is fuel efficient, affordable car that has the potential of reducing overall consumption because the price makes it accessible to more people. But Japan's regular is 91 octane. For the US, Mazda has the choice of having premium on the sticker or detuning the engine. Which lowers that potential through lower sales or lower efficiency.
