I was actually considering putting my stickers on the small, flat, vertical glass in the back and on the front windshield... I saw an old Prius (with the gold stickers) like that once... I wonder if anyone has tried that and had any issues with CHP for sticker placement.

Here's a crazy-quick timeline after DMV received the application!.

    3/6 Purchased car
3/20 Registration finally done - got plates assigned (application mailed 3/21)
    3/22 Application received in Sacramento
3/24 Stickers issued just two days later (and on a Saturday????)
    3/26 Stickers mailed
3/27 Got stickers at home (YAY!!!) -- Sticker #124

Curiously, like mmstuart, my check has also not yet hit my bank...

So unfortunately I had the initial 14 day delay, but then from application received by DMV to them mailing the actual stickers was just 5 calendar days?!?! (Note: my stickers came with my registration card... is that somehow associated with the speed?)

Its probably like driving around without a front license plate. People do it all the time. But if a cop is in a bad mood they can pull and give you a fix it ticket. Not sure what happen when you don't follow the rules DMV provides for the stickers.

At minimum putting the sticker in the wrong place could get you pulled over and waste your time including having to reorder stickers to erase a fix it ticket.

By the way, for those of us planning to swap our generic plates for personalized, there's a note on the certificate that says we have to file REG 1000 again to update the license plate on the sticker certificate...

Sorry...had to remove the frames so I can wash/wax the entire car. :)

I agree. The instructions clearly say to put the sticker on the right side of the bumper:

For green decals, place on the right side of each bumper

Too bad because that location looks ideal for the sticker, plus it's higher and easier for the cops to view from behind.

I think I'm gonna risk it... I really dislike the idea of stickers on paint... I'm gonna put the big stickers on the front & back and forgo the side ones altogether... Hopefully CHP won't give me any grief.

Why even put one on the front? That's the first place I would avoid.

I had to look at the illustration on the installation instructions to see what they meant by "right side of bumper" in the front. Is that the right as you are standing in front of the car facing the bumper (the driver's side), or the right as you sit facing forward in the car (the passenger side)? The illustration indicates the former.

Photo on instructions shows the front sticker is on the driver's side (right side as you FACE the front of the car). The back one is on the passenger side (right side if you're looking at the car from behind).

Stickers placed in a "classic" style. Figure these little babies are the reason I got this car, so happy to display prominently. :D So excited for the commute tomorrow morning!

Well, I wanted to put on at least 2 stickers so the most logical places to me are on right corner of the back, vertical glass window and the upper left (when facing the car) area of the windshield... At least in this manner the CHP will have a good view of the stickers as I'm coming or going... There really isn't any good places on the side windows for stickers, so I think I'm gonna do without those.

The Calif vehicle code prohibits placing stickers, etc. in the upper portions of the windshield. You can use the lower corners, however. From memory, I think it is limited to a 5"X5" square on the driver's side and 7"X7" square on the passenger's side.
When you refer to the "back, vertical glass window" do you mean the dark section below the hatch? I'm thinking about putting a small one there, or else down very low on the right rear bumper.
I had no trouble at all removing the yellow ones from the painted bumpers on my '06. I just let the car sit in the sun for an hour or so, and they peeled right off. So I think they would work the same on the glass.
As I've posted before, I don't think the exact spot where you place the stickers matters, as long as they are visible to a CHP officer from either the front or rear. Having said that, if you were to get pulled over for something else, like speeding, etc., an officer might mention the placement of the stickers or the number of them you have on your vehicle. The exception to the above might be if one is placed in the upper corner of the windshield. That one I would be concerned about.

... or if you did something really stupid... like a Gen II Prius I once saw with all four yellow stickers across the back glass of the trunk lid (that narrow slit of vertical glass). It just screamed "illiterate idiot!"

You ever notice how some people put the month and year stickers opposite of where they are supposed to go, and with the positions clearly stamped in the metal indicating where they are to be placed?
Or better yet, I've seen multiple year stickers placed all over the plate! I guess people think they have to prove that the car has been licensed in previous years. Yet the only one that counts is the current one. Go figure.

Thanks for the info of the California Vehicle Code, and you're right:

    V C Section 26708 Material Obstructing or Reducing Driver x2019 s View

Still, I would think the upper right corner wouldn't impede vision... Plus, it's the only real spot on the windshield that doesn't interfere with the windshield wiper.

Yes, when I referred to the "back, vertical glass window" I meant the dark section below the hatch... That's the most logical place for the sticker in my opinion... It's easy to see, and it's on glass.
