I got my carpool stickers (#76) a couple days ago. I have not put them on yet. I want to see if anyone has an idea where to put them. I hate to put them on the paint. And I guess we have to put on all four of them. I feel it makes the car look like a billboard. Any ideas on placement?

I just put the two on the rear bumper. I put the other two in the car in case CHP stops me and complains about it, which seems unlikely. Time will tell. So far no issues!

I think I will also just put the two stickers on the rear bumpber and keep the rest in the car. Can always add the other two later if need be. I think the green is a good color, did not like the old color.

I'm currently waiting for my PIP, which is due in the next couple weeks. I'm assuming/hoping that getting the HOV sticker should be no problem; that we are not even close to the maximum number of stickers available. Thoughts?

Do people know where we are as far as stickers issued/left?

Well, there are 40000 available, and I haven't seen anything over #200 yet. I think you are safe ;)

40,000! I was a little stressed out myself...thanks for the info. I even went down to Miller Toyota to talk to my sales rep. (Paul Schullte) what has been quite helpful. My pip is still in Japan. I am just a little jealous watching everybody get their sticker!

Read through the posts in this thread; lots of ideas as to where and how many stickers to place on your vehicle. BTW, you don't need two on your rear bumper. It would be more to the point to put one on the front end so that an officer sitting in the center median on a motorcycle, or one in a car in the number one lane sees it as you approach.

I'm putting one sticker on the right hand corner of the back, black, vertical glass (right below the hatch glass), and one in the upper left (when facing the car) of the windshield (even though it's a violation of the CA vehicle code)... No stickers will be affixed to the sides of the car.

I guess my PiP will be a rolling fix-it ticket... Carpool stickers in the incorrect spots, sticker on the windshield, no front license plate, and tinted front windows... LOL

Remember that in 2006, the instant pool of eligible vehicles included Prius from '01 to '06 plus several years of Honda Insights. Now it's starting with only the PiPs incrementally eligible as they get delivered. Then there will be the Volts and some other cars. But getting to 40k stickers distributed will take much more time this go-around

I believe the first HOV lane stickers in California were issued in 2005, although that doesn't have much impact on your correct statement. There were one heck of a lot of cars already on the road that were eligible when those first ones were issued. And at the time, the number was limited to 75,000 if I remember correctly. Later on an extra 10,000 were added. The state will probably have stickers left over come Jan 1, 2015.

That would depend on the Feds. They have to approve all this HOV stuff.

I believe that is correct in allowing EV and other single-occupant vehicles in the HOV lanes to begin with, but for extensions, I don't think federal approval was needed. Otherwise, we would never have gotten the extra six months on the yellow stickers; it would have taken that long for somebody to test the political winds before coming up with a bill.
The federal government supplied funding for the construction of the HOV lanes, and set the rules. So they had a say in how the lanes could be used. I think it has been decided at the state level since then, including extending the priviledge for natural gas and all-electrics here in California. There will be a lot of naysayers if it comes up again, so I don't think we will be getting any extensions, although I would certainly welcome them. We probably should just enjoy it while we can.

On our 06 with yellow stickers (and soon PIP after tomorrow!) I put three on like devprius mentioned above and saved the last one with the certificate in the glove box in case of theft. You can get replacements no problem if stolen or the bumper is replaced even if the stickers are gone, but if the car is totaled you might be out of luck.

Heck, I might just do the two on the back right corner since that's where CHP will be rolling up on you from anyway.
