Just got a new '12 Prius 2 w/ some extra options. We actually just went to look and decided it was the right time to buy so we traded in the family suv (06 Porsche Cayenne S) and my garage queen (03 Jaguar S-Type R). It hurt to see them go but we've already saved $200 in gas money this 1st month of ownership so it's already paying it's way.

We purchased a black with bisque leather prius 2 and added the factory navi with backup camera. It's been great so far! The hardest part is adjusting to the heavy foot syndrome from the past cars owned.

Looking forward to more 45avg miles per gallon!

Welcome to the forums. Being a new Prius owner too, I understand your feelings, while I didn't have the nice cars you do, in the long run, I think you might prefer the fewer worries of how much you have to pay to do your driving... Expect roughly 2 to 3 week gas ups versus what you had before. :)

Not only that but the repairs......
The Jag cost $1200 just for new tires.
The Porsche cost $500 for the 60K mile service.

Ouch... Well, I can't tell you how much of an improvement the service will be on the Prius. However, tires will depend mostly on what you want on your car. I know some of my more Car saavy guys tell me that you can go cheap, you can go expensive, but in the long run, you want to spend just the right about for the tire that will do the job you need.

Welcome to the Prius family. You made a very wise decision investing in a hybrid vehicle. Please remember to never put away your lead foot because that's how car enthusiasts enjoy ourselves no matter which vehicle we drive. :)

    Congrats on the new car!

If you're only getting 45mpg, you better check to see if you've left your emergency brake on!

Congrats on your purchase. I've always loved big engined gas guzzlers but the Prius has enough techno cool stuff that it amazes me. The Prius is a great choice with exceptional resale value....

Really? Check the ebrake? You've got to understand that this is a whole new form of driving for me. I've always had more powerful cars and have been autocrossing my dearly missed 2003 mr2 Turbo for a few years before last year when I bought the jag. Hell, even at 45mpg, this is way better than 16 with the Porsche and 18 with the jag....

Well, I think he is just giving you a hard time of how you are driving the car. On average, you can get much better than that just changing how you drive too. :) Given you are in Orlando with warmer weather, it suggests your MPG should be in the mid 50s to lower 60s, maybe more.

My dealer told me that my MPG would increase the more I drove the car and broke it in. After I took a 12 hour trip in my new Prius my MPG went from 47 to 53-54.

If you look at most people the op is in the normal for the car mpg wise.
