I was so good about not obsessing - until this week, when my PIP is scheduled to be built. (The dealer says it's this week. The last Toyota robo-email said this month. My order page still says April-May.)

How soon after it's built will I get another robo-email from Toyota?

Same question for loading on a ship. And how do I find out what ship it's on?

Is there any point in looking at my order page any more?

Or should I just call my dealer every hour or two?

I found that the build date and the in-transit date were within 24-48 hours of actual occurence. However, the arrival in port date was about a week behind...One person on the board actually went into the app (just for fun) and cancelled his order after he had already taken delivery as it still showed in transit.

Was that on the Toyota order web page? Or the robo-email?

Weeks behind? Wow! That's great!!! I just got a robo-mail from the high seas.

This must mean mine should be in port any ol' day now!

Here's a summary of dates i got from toyotamail:

1/27 Plug-in will be built in Feb
    2/10 Plug-in finished
2/15 Plug-in on it's way over the sea
    2/21 Dealer emails with VIN
3/8 Plug-in on way from port to dealer
3/14 at dealer, prepped n ready for delivery

Keep after your dealer and keeping a dialogue going will help i think.

    Good Luck!

Crewdog is on the East Coast so his car had to go through the Panama Canal which is 20 days from Japan. My car came through Long Beach to Arizona - 1 month (29 days) from build until it showed up at the dealer as you can see below.

Update: Looks like all the information systems have a day or two lag in them, at least in this case:

My PIP was built 3/29 or 3/30, depending on what system you believe, but I couldn't find that out for one or two more working days.

On 3/30 (morning U.S., evening Japan), the dealer sent this status report which still did not show the build:

Not until 4/2 (morning U.S., late night Japan), two working days later, was my order page on toyota.com updated: "Your Plug-In was built 3/29/2012". The same day the dealer's system showed an actual build date of 3/30/2012. Robo-email was not received until the evening of 4/3.

My prius was built 3/22 but I haven't received any updates since. Is that normal? Do you think that it is on a boat already?

My car showed in transit to port (Long Beach) 3/2, arrived 3/19, and was at dealer ready for delivery on 3/29.

    I haven't officially canceled my order yet, . . .

My plug in was built on 3/27/12, and my dealer sales person says it will be on the TMC (name of ship?), and is scheduled to leave Japan on 4/9/12 . . . coming to the San Francisco Bay Area . . .

I'm scheduled on the same ship. Was built 3/30 and feeling bad about waiting 10 days. You're waiting 13. But maybe we'll catch an earlier ship.

What does CBU mean (as in "Available for Shipment(CBU)" on the dealer's status screen?

This morning (4/11) California time, evening Japan time, my toyota.com order page showed "In transit to port - 4/8/2012." So three days delay in this coming up. My dealer didn't have it yesterday and I haven't gotten the robo-email either.

My dealer hasn't confirmed yet, but I am assuming it's the Texas Highway, which is due in Benicia early morning of April 21. If I can get an updated time and it doesn't come in at night, I might try to watch it go through the bay.
