DAP (Digital Music Player) Location

No, put your hand on the front of that and move forward. The center pillar is ahead. I put my Pioneer XM radio on the carpet between the center compartment and the central pillar. I used velcro to put the base in place.

 

In the glove box, attached to VAIS AIC-100i, but I really like the location of the AUX imput. I wish Toyota had done this from the get go. The VAIS is a good alternative for the rest of us. I have to say being able to get at the iPod from the steering wheel is a big improvement over fumbling with a FM transmitter and the iPod. Eyes on the road and good tunes.

 

That is, if you want the full control with steering wheel and MFD (w/ text). I mounted mine in the top glove box with extra cable for the passenger to use it (only in simple mode). That seems to be a perfect location since it's small and rubberized so the iPod doesn't slide around.

I have an '05 and I had Toyota put an A/V aux input inside of my senter console next to the power outlet. I also had them drill a hole in the front of the console which provides an exit path to behind the tissue box drawer. I have a wonderful Iriver DAP that goes everywhere with me. I'm still working to find the best location for it. Lately I've been placing it in the semi-tranparent compartment under the stereo. I drilled a hole in the back of that compartment and ran the cord out of my hole in the center console, under the tissue box drawer, up behind that center pillar, and into the little compartment from the back. When I listen to the player, I leave the little door open and set the player on the door, angled towards me. When I park the car, I can just put my iriver inside the box and close the door; thus keep sun and thievs away. The only place the cord can be seen is the short distance on the carpet between the tissue drawer and the pillar.

Where is the aux input in the '06? Does it have a video input too?

Also, another question for '06 owners: Is your navigation system hard disk based? My coworker just got an '06 and here in Japan, the new Nav system is HDD. No DVD at all. You can also "rip" cd's right to the hard disk and listen to them any time. I don't know how big the disk is, but that's pretty cool. Is it like this in the U.S. and other countries as well?

 

You Japanese get all the good stuff. No, I believe the 06 NAV is still DVD based. Those getting a 2006 are lucky they get a head unit that can read files off the CDs, and has a basic generic audio only input. They didn't even put in an IPOD docking connector that the Scion has into the Prius, so the stock unit can't control the IPod.

How do you update the NAV?

 

I'm not completely sure since I'm stuck with the old DVD system in my car. My friend is not very "tech-minded" and had no idea when I asked her. I'm curious about that as well, so I'll ask Toyota about when I take my car in for its 6 month checkup mext month. I'm guessing they just load the software on to the hard disk at the dealer. I'm also curious as to what they charge for an update. I think I remember them saying when I bought my car that an updated NAV DVD would be around a couple hundred bucks here.

 

I uses a windshield mount so it is right below and to the right of the rear view mirror.. I hooked up an IPOD2CAR.. and just have the wire dangling there for now..

I have a poor man's CAN-DO;Y-splitter composite cable from the Iriver to the F and R cables routing to the amps in the back. I have the hub under the stereo where the little box once was. I can store my Iriver there as well. I'd like to get a secong remote cable and unit to wire from the that area to the center console area. Though a little ghetto is my style.

 

Agreed. I said that back in elementry school and didn't think anything about it. I got so busted that I haven't said it since and cringe when I hear or see it. And I'm German, Spanish, Scandinavian, American.

 

I am truly sorry that I offended anyone. It really wasn't meant to call anyone a jackass, or any derogatory statement. It was meant as a shorthand. I see your point, and as you can see, I have edited the post to fully write out Japanese. My term was more out of ignorance than an intended attack, but an ignorance that can and has been taught differently.
