Why the second, why not the first? Or would the dealer be closed on New Years'?

Anyhoo, CONGRATULATIONS!!! ~2 more weeks for you to endure before you finally get your car!!!

I'm looking at about the same time frame for myself-any time between Jan 1 and 15 is when my car is expected in, by the end of the month at the absolute most latest. :D :D

I don't really understand the whole deal about the taxes. I haven't really been paying attention to the posts about it. Does anyone care to explain real quickly?

I wish i was in your shoes. I cannot wait to hear from my dealer esp since he told me that i was #1 on the waiting list for a 2006. They have not gotten any 06s here yet.
Congratulations. I can bet you must be waiting for the year to end to take delivery.

The Prius FAQ has a good brief description of the tax credit

Congratulations! You will surely love it!

I got mine just a week and a half ago. It's amazing. Such a pleasure to drive. My previous car was an Escort. For me, the difference between the two is like Windows (Escort) versus the Mac (Prius). :D

    Here's hoping yours arrives speedily!

Umm, in most cases, you will be FAR better off w/an estimated $3150 tax CREDIT if you take delivery in 2006 compared to a $2000 tax DEDUCTION if you take it before 2006.

The value of the deduction depends on your tax bracket. I'm not tax expert by a longshot, but a $2000 deduction should be worth $200-$700 off your federal income tax depending on your tax bracket vs. $3150 off your taxes. If you're affected by AMT, see the other threads for more details.
