I think the Prius is a 10 year car when looking at the real-world info on TrueDelta where you can compare the reliability of the Prius with any other automobile. Even comparing with the Camry the Prius still looks very good. http://www.truedelta.com/results-dispatcher.php?results_page=1&pvw=0&brand_1=Toyota&model_1=272&brand_2=Toyota&model_2=264&submit_pretty=1 When comparing with any other make the Prius looks excellent! Oh yeah:rockon:
@usnavystgc - I apologize, I was very stressed at time of posting. I feel that there were a number of repairs that were unusual or defect of design. And you're right, Toyota really isn't responsible for the issues I've had with our local dealer. I shouldn't pass the rudeness on. My wife called me out on it too... So just wanted to apologize for being an ornery. :focus:
My experience is that time is the major factor in batterry life. I purchased my 2001 Prius in October 2003 when it had 17,000 miles. In January 2009 the battery failed at 197,000 miles. My mechanic replaced it with a new battery from Toyota for < $2,000. My sister-in-law bought a 2001 Prius in 2005 with 40,000 miles. In September 2009 the battery failed at 127,000 miles. My mechanic replaced the battery for about $100 less than mine becaue the battery price had dropped during 2009. I think that this explains why the hybrid warranty went from 10yrs or 100,000 miles on the Gen1 to 8 yrs or 100,000 miles on the Gen2.
