This company in Texas just added a single Prius vehicle to their fleet.

Seeing as how he bought only one, I suspect it's some kind of trial. So if you are in the San Antonio area and need a cab, help move his experiment along and ask for the Prius.

I hope this wasn't posted before. I did a couple of searches and could not find any hybrid taxis in San Antonio posted going back to November, and this seems to date to Dec 5th.

According to the article, the gentelman that bought the Prius is an owner operator contractor, so he own the vehicle that he drives. In other words the taxi company employes people that own their own cars.

here in the greater Vancouver area including the north shore I'd estimate at least 30 Prius taxis. One in SA? where's the rest of them?

Boston has a few. It's actually an airport limo service and not exactly a taxi company.

    Anyone know of any others?

I know NYC recently approved the taxi fleets that they can now use the Prius, but I think the only hybrids they've gotten up to now are Ford Escapes.

Many years ago at Lackland AFB,

pretty nice to see a young man that is responsible.

I'm a severly disabled veteran that is waiting for his 2006 Prius. No, I'm not unamerican. I've earned my disability pay the hard way. very hard. I want to be responsible and I don't want to pay these oil companies any more money. I've got better things to do with my $.

Thankyou, for this post. You are great. We have to cut off this oil money ASAP.

    Gary in Minnesota.

A few weeks ago, I spotted a Prius taxi in Ljubljana, Slovenia, well after midnight.

Snagged a picture with my phone camera:
    Prius Taxi in Ljubljana

It's bright yellow. The sign mounted on the roof must harm the aerodynamics in a major way :)

On another visit there, I spotted another Prius taxi at the Ljubljana airport. That one was also bright yellow, and has 'HIBRID' in huge letters on the rear bumper.

I checked for it on the web, and here it is:
    Prius Taxi Ljubljana website

Their website allows you to call to be picked up specifically by the Prius, and you get a discount for web-based ordering.

I edited my posting on the Ljubljana Prius taxi, because, on closer inspection (of the roof-mounted taxi signs and the bumpers), I concluded that there must be more than one Prius taxi...

    I added a picture.

I wonder how its holding up. Roads in the old Soviet Union are not known for being well maintained and in many cases are brick or stone. A friend of mine travels to Bulgaria every year and he told me that its unlikely my Prius would hold up well in the Balkin countries because of the poor state of road repair.

The roads in Ljubljana and to/from airport were MacAdam (as we say in my country), seemed to be of good quality and looked very well maintained, and Slovenia WAS NOT in the old Soviet Union.

    Short geography lesson:
Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia and it was NEVER a part of the Soviet Union. It was part of former Jugoslavia though.
I bet 99% of Americans have no clue about it because it's a very small (but beatiful) country with nice people.
Even George W. Bush had a problem distinguishing betwwen Slovenia and Slovakia.

    Cheers!

I'm away from Winnipeg on business until 1st week in Jan, but AFAIK a local cab co "Duffy's" has 7 Prius cars, and seem happy with them.

I think they're ordering more too. True they'll take a big hit in city fuel economy at -40, but so does the Ford Crown Vic.

The City of San Antonio just bougth 20 Prius to add to their fleet of Honda Civic Hybrids.

They use them for the code compliance officers to drive.

I just took delivery on a 2005 and I have a 2006 on the way next year in September.

I got white because of the Texas heat waves we have all the time.

I am seeing more on the roads in San Antonio everyday. It is just a good decision to get a hybrid when you drive over 100 miles a day.

Great! Wow, at this rate you will put on around 84,000 miles per year.

How many hours a day are you driving the car? Are you going to use a synthetic oil? Have you had any complaints about head room in the rear seat?
