First 400 Miles

Here is comparison of the first 400 miles in my Prius v ( Pv2 ) compared to my 2010 Prius (P). The driving was about half local driving and half highway. I am 6'2" and used the back to carry up to 2 road/mountain bikes.

The Prius v is larger, 6" longer and 1 " wider. Driving the Pv feels like a car compared the more smaller P. The Pv2 roof is higher providing great headroom. More importantly, looking out the front, I can see out through the top of the windshield. In the P, when stopped at a traffic light, I would have to tilt my head sideways to get a clear view.

The ride feel solid and heavier versus the P. Acceleration on both feel about the same. On similar 400 mile trips, the Pv2 average 42mph while the P averaged 48mph. Road noise is slightly quieter in Pv2.

Loading 2 bikes into the Pv2 was much easier with plenty of room for hauling other stuff. To protect the carpet and back of the seats, I bought the large rectangular floor plastic floor protector at Staples. I cut then in half. I use the 2 pieces when the 2nd seats are down and overlap the 2 when the seats are up.

I bought the side mouldings from PriusChat store and the mud guards from eBay ( $20 cheaper ).

I am happy with both Prii.

 

Side Molding went on yesterday and was easy to accomplish. Having a second person helps when putting on the blue alignment tape straight. There was only 1 thin tube of liquid glue. It was hard to gauge how much was remaining in the tube. I was concerned I would run out before completing the last molding. But all went well.

The front mud guards install was easy. Put the car in accessory mode, turn the front wheels hard left/right and install. All the screw holes lined up perfectly.

The bad will require removing the wheels and drilling 3 holes. I'll have my son do this so he learns how to change a tire.

On my second tank of gas. With local driving, I am getting ~41 mpg.
