I've tried to search under various key words, but haven't been able to figure this out. When we turn on the headlights now, the Speedo does not dim and Navigation does not go to the black background anymore. Any ideas? It was working fine before and I don't know what got changed. Thanks for any ideas.

try playing with the dimmer switch. it's on the left of the steering wheel.

or are you saying the dimmer switch doesn't work anymore?

Unless the dimmer switch is not working, the dimmer switch has a detent which puts the dash, and therefore the MFD, to day mode, as Galaxee was eluding to.

To further go on with this, the MFD also has its own forced day mode where the MFD will have the same LCD brightness and contrast as it would if you had the dash in day mode. To observe and control this, you have to first have the dash in night mode. Then press Display on the MFD bezel. You'll notice a soft button Day Mode. Note though, this button disappears when the dash is in day mode whether forced by the dimmer, or because the tail lights are off. However, even when the MFD is in forced day mode, the backlight still dims with the dash.

If you're sure the dimmer isn't in the detent that keeps it full bright, then you're probably in "Day Mode". I believe that change is accessed via the Menu screen, but I always have to play with it to figure it out.

S0, this is when you 3 are on the board. Good to know, I appreciate your posts throughout the forum. If we don't cross on another thread soon, have a great Christmas.

That menu Day Mode doesn't affect the speedo though. Only the dimmer does that.

When the tail lights are off, everything is in day mode.

When the tail lights are on, normally the dash is in night mode.

However, the dimmer can be moved all the way to detent, which forces the dash to day mode, no matter if the tail lights are on or not.

The MFD will normally use the bright/contrast setting for night mode if the dash is in night mode, otherwise it will use the day mode settings.

However, the MFD can be forced to use the day mode LCD settings, even when the dash is in night mode.

If the dash cannot be dimmed with the tail lights on, no matter what position the dimmer is in, then either the dimmer has gone bad, or the body ECU has lost sensing that the tail lights are on

Looking over the wiring diagram, if the dash illumination is not working at all (radio backlight, hazard switch back light, etc.) check that the 7.5A panel fuse hasn't been blown.

    Glad it's solved.

I am usually not on this late (Early?). All I was looking to do was check if I had any PMs and decided to quickly (?) check some of the lower volume forums, and it seems I got involved in a pseudo-chat session with a few people.

    I should be in bed.
