Looking at purchasing either a 12 or 11 new from the dealer next week. Anything that you did/wish you negotiated into the car? Read a few people with window tint and katzskin seat cover. I might be buying from a dealer 3 hours away which would mean things that could be done in an afternoon. Maybe a 3rd key? Thanks!

You can try anything, but they way they are selling with gas prices now you might not get much. It begs the question; What is more important, the price of the car or some extra trinkets? Leather seats and/or a third key are not free, the cost has to come from somewhere. That being said, there is probably going to be more room to negotiate in a 2011 than a 2012.

You know the old saying--everything's negotiable. Personally, I'd rather negotiate the lowest price on the car itself, and not worry about those rip-off high margin add-on items.

USA Today published an article yesterday saying "Gas price surge is likely finished"

So don't let fear of gas prices stampede you into paying a higher price. The salesmen WILL try to use gas prices as a tactic to tell you they don't negotiate off the sticker price. Print out a copy of the article and take it with you. :)

Gas-price surge in '12 likely is over

We got prices of Pri from several dealerships, then went to our local dealership and told them that these places were offering this price but we want to keep our business local and what they would do for us. They ended up going out of state to find the car we wanted for the price we asked.

Of course this probable worked because the nearest toyota dealership was over an hour away in either direction.

I've been hearing that some people have had their dealers install leather interior for as low as $700. And that's wrapped into the loan as well. Beats doing it after you take it home, and is worth a shot.

The price of the car should be the number one priority if you want to save the most money. When you complicate the deal with high margin add ons is when the dealer profits shift to into overdrive.

As far as getting the lowest price for the car in your area. I suggest to save time, I would email the internet sales department of each dealership and tell them you are buying a car this week and ask them what is the lowest price they offer. This of course is after you tell them your choice of color and options. Then work each dealer against each other for the lowest price among them.

If you want something other than cloth seats, simply get the model 4. Its a better value that way and has the Toyota warranty. Remember, nothing is free. Don't pay for extended warranties or service packages. They are rip-offs. Nothing the dealer adds is cheaper than you can get elsewhere from a third party for less. Get the tinting done by your local and trusted tint shop.
