I'm quite certain that it'll be abbreviated: E Main St

You know, anything that you add to "STORED," in MY DESTINATIONS, would be available as a FAVORITE from the voice command lists.

Lets say that you had to drive to ACME once or twice a week from different places. Being something that you use often, you could save it in stored destinations and name it "ACME." The next time that you want to go to ACME, you'd hit the talk switch on the steering wheel and say: "FAVORITE ACME," and the system would set a trip.

Sorry, what needs "correcting" is Toyota's concept of software.

Not your fault, of course, and thanks for identifying the problem. But the issue lies not with "incorrect" addresses in our iPhone address books, but with Toyota's failure to think through their product's features and deliver something that people can use.

Good question. I'd be curious what the answer is.

I haven't tried to 7" System. Truth is, I like the 6.!" Better and mainly because of the "voice recognition in the 6".
Where resolution was sacrificed, technology was not. The 6" system its such a deal at $900.

You can't actually blame Navtech unless something is missing in terms of street date. What's interesting about Entune is the number of collaborators in the system. Unlike Ford with microsoft, Toyota's Entune includes 2 different hardware makers ( 6.1" Hardware is from Harmen, the 7" is from Denso ).
Software, traffic, voice recognition, Apps, & Audio are all separate companies.
Toyota brought all of this stuff together, to create a system that they could update and scale as time moves on and better apps become available.
I think we're going to see a lot in the future with this system. Watch for new features offered at Lexus. There's a new RX this fall, that might have a clue about upcoming technologies for us at Toyota.

Really sorry for the frustration with the system. I'll submit it to Toyota. It could be corrected in a future update.
Dude, it's a pretty crappy bug in the system for sure, I totally agree.

Agreed, The fault lies with Toyota.

Clearly, Toyota bit of more than it could chew.

Let's hope so, since the present is unacceptable (and misrepresented in both the promotional literature and the manuals). Perhaps an update in the near future will fix the problems with address formatting.

That shouldn't be happening at all.

Your contacts are only shown when the phone is powered on and connected via bluetooth.
If you had your phone powered off, and you navigated to the phone screen on the Prius, there would be no contacts shown. The address book is stored in the car, but it's only available and displayable when that phone is connected.
Sorry to repeat that...but I wanted to be sure that this was clear.

If you have to re-pair the bluetooth connection once you've charged and powered the phone back on, that would delete the phone book.

In the experience that you mentioned, did you have to re-pair the phone? Re-pair meaning that you had to search for the "Hand-Free," and re-enter the PIN#?

    Please! And thanks!

Let them know that in the meantime I'm driving aimlessly all over North America, with no idea where I am. (At least my mileage is good.)

Dude! Please! Not being able to read native format addresses from 99% of Macs, PC's and smartphones is definitely blame worthy.

As Ray and Dave would say....booooooogus!

I think that qualifies as a bug, not a feature. Most are finding the system very limited and frustrating. The classic too many vendors stew is likely the reason.

If Google maps was that limited, Brin and Page would be seeking asylum in Arubastan.

That was sarcasm...me covering for Navtech? Years and years of explanations about why your street doesn't exist when you live in a county club.
The customer asks, "Why can I google it for free but not key it into my Nav system?"
Uh...well you see Navtech doesn't think you CClub address is worthy of noting in their Nav.

I'd like to see Google sell their maps to a Nav company. Why Navtech? It's not even a company that anyone at the consumer end is familiar with.

Toyota's Entune with Voice Guided Nav powered by Google Maps...
    That just reeks of credibility.

Agreed. I really miss the decent voice recognition in my old 2005. The "premium" system in my new 2012 is about 10 steps backwards.

I'd love to find a way to even SEE addresses. I can sync the contacts from my iPhone 4s, but the Nav address book remains stubbornly empty, and the phone address shows only phone numbers. Apparently the only way I can add an address to the Nav address book is manually.

Stupidest system I've ever tried to use.

ALDARON: I can't bear to see your car listed as a Prius IV with "Base," as the package. OK, true it ins't equipped with the hole & panels on the roof, but dude....that's the first Prius ever with a power seat? JBL's standard as is Nav, Entune and back-up. Could you change the Package to read: Hook'd Up

The IV is my favorite package all day long. Nice new "leather guts," power seat with 8 directions. JBL, heated seats, home link, Auto-dim. That's my ideal ride.
The roof and solar panels are boss...HUD?! Yep, but not for $4500.

Consider this: Prius IV is $28k.
A camry XLE w/ 4 cylinders leather, heat and a hole in the roof is about 28k....still no JBL and 35MPG on the highway.
    a Rav4 LTD with 4 cylinders is $29k.
Highlander base with 4x2 and 4 cylinders is about 28k.

What kind of a deal is the Prius IV @ $28k? Dude...write it up! I'll take in in Nautical Blue with Misty gray guts. Not in-stock? I'll take winter gray, but the interior isn't negotiable.

I envy all you kids with these cool Prii.

Your '05 wasn't nearly as good as the HDD system in your current Prius. I say that as the voice recognition was weak at best. Now you get a USB for for iPod, streaming audio, XM Traffic, much faster GUI

Both systems: '05 & '12 required manual adding of addresses into the "stored address or phonebook," for the Nav...i'm not at all talking about the iPhone's contacts.
When you're driving down the road, you can't see any address that are stored, same is true of your phonebook. It was this way for your old system as well.
I'd suggest that you try chainging the abbreviated street suffixes in your iPhone, then refresh the phone book... No more "Street," but use "ST," instead.
I suggest this not having tried it myself. Your Nav was manufactured by Denso and runs their software, the 6" system was manufactured by Harmen and uses their own or something supplied.

To be clear, the 6" system doesn't load the addresses into the Nav automatically. There's an tab in the destination's screen to grab the cell phone's contact list and search it for addresses.

When I said I didn't care for the 7" system, I mean that I don't care for the way the voice recognition works. In your system, I have to walk through several steps to make a phone call:
    "PHONE, DIAL BY NAME,<STORED NAME>,DIAL"
in the 6" system it's this east:
"CALL <Stored name>" I'll give it home or mobile in either system where necessary.
The same is true of addresses, in the 6" system it's one command line where the 7" system requires several commands for the same task.

Your 7" screen, resolution, & Media/ Audio screens are quite a bit nicer however.

So all the addresses I changed to abbreviations were still "not navigable". I'm at work now, but if I find the time later I'll find the address manually in the system to see how it's represented then change my contact accordingly and see if that'll work (for a start).

Good to know. I hope we're all contacting Toyota and our dealers to let them know how unacceptable this is. Also let your favorite auto publications and blogs know too.

On my 2005, I had an aftermarket solution for my iPod which worked quite nicely and integrated with the steering wheel controls. While it's true that I couldn't find and play a song, artist, etc., via voice controls -- which I do like in my 2012 -- it still worked just fine. I don't use the streaming audio, so that is useless for me. I do like XM Traffic, but find that it's usually a bit behind what the traffic actually is. The voice recognition in the navigation module on the 2005 was waaaaaaay better.

There is no such tab in the 7" system's destination screen that I can find. The only option for a new address in the nav address book is to type it in manually. When I said that I can't see the addresses loaded in my phonebook from my iPhone, I meant that I can't see them *ever* -- even when parked. My issue isn't that they aren't navigable. They're not there at all.

Not true on the phone call. With the 7" I can push the talk button and say "Call <stored name> <type>" and it works just fine. I've made several calls in this fashion with no issue. There's no need to go through the process you've outlined above. It may be that the phone commands are part of the "expanded voice commands." Those can be turned on via a setting.

It does take quite a bit of wading through voice menus to set a destination via an address. I gave up because I couldn't get it to recognize the street I live on no matter how I tried to pronounce it.

Just wanted to add that I actually quite like the way the voice recognition for phone and audio works, once I turned on the "extended voice commands." I don't understand why that setting wasn't turned on to begin with, but... whatever.

What I really, really, really don't like is that the range of useful voice commands available in navigation mode on the 6" and on the pre-2010 models has been reduced to... count 'em... FOUR voice commands, none of which is particularly useful.

Yes, I realize that the 7" and the 6" are different manufacturers and my techie side understand that there will be differences in usage and perhaps integration issues. But as an end user, I only see that the functionality I had before had been so drastically modified as to make it completely unusable for my purposes. The pretty screen doesn't do me any good. Every time I see the words "Premium HDD Navigation" I want to laugh hysterically. Toyota screwed this one up. Badly.

Don't know why they don't sell a 7" Samsung Galaxy (or similar) with a docking station built into the dash to plug it in. Put on a GPS receiver, pre-load it with Garmin nav.

Super high def, cool apps and way less money than all these weak car systems that look (and work) like an Etch-a-Sketch in comparison.

Car company could get huge kickback from Samsung, Sony, Apple for the sale of devices. It would be hundreds of dollars per car cheaper to manufacture car with a docking spot vs. the embedded nav and all buttons etc. Toyota has to make. Users would get brilliant graphics, great applications.

I'm here to help, nothing more. Your negatively is unbearable.
Is the nav & entune completely souring your owner experience with the car? If so, I'm quite certain any dealer will pay you 20-21 grand for the car. You'd be able to go buy something more acceptable.

As a follow up, I found an address manually in the nav system for one of my contacts. I made sure it read exactly the same on my phone, I refreshed the phone book and not only was it not navigable, it was GREYED OUT! I checked another that matched the way the nav system woud show the address and it was still "not navigable" I guess I'll either enter manually or jsut use my Android phone (Google Maps) as it works just as well and is mounted to the dash.
