I've been serious about a Prius for the past month. Nov 4 went to dealer. Nov 6 found out 2006 were coming soon. Decided to wait. Thought it would be mid-Jan at the earliest, and if one of my three colors came in with package #7.

This past Tuesday nite my salesmen called me. "Bob, it's here!"
    "Impossible!" I reply
It was there. Went the next day at 12:30. It wasn't my first choice of color, although I now think it really was my first choice. I told Nick I wanted to wait a couple months to see if my first choice came in. I have a 99 Camry with 70K and in great shape. I'm not in a hurry.
"If I can make you a good deal would you consider it?" Nick says as I'm getting ready to leave.
Huh? I think. I didn't think you could make a deal on Prius'. Maybe it was my good luck it was the last day of the sales month! What the heck. I haven't played this game in a long time. Let's see how much I remember.

At first my salesmen said: "How does $500 lower sound", after I refused to be baited by his 'give me an offer' line.
I almost fell out of my chair. "I could do it for that" :D
Well of course he couldn't do it for that as I soon found out. He walked away to his sales manager, in a small room with an open door and no ceiling about 30 feet away. I hear someone say "$500!" and then a lot of laughing. A short time later Nick and his sales manager come walking back to the table.

"Bob, this is our first 2006 Prius, and it's also the first deliverd to a dealer between Sacramento and the Oregon border. We can't let it go for that but we want you in that car. Here's the full price out the door." He shows me the familiar single piece of paper with 30,638 (7.25% county for sales tax portion of fees) a space below it, then a line. "Give me a number".
"Let's make it a nice round number", I respond, "30,500".
    "Done!"
$28,286.00 sticker included 186.00 for Carpet and Cargo floor mats + the ugly Rear Bumper Applique for 65. My invoice price before fees, etc - 28,159.43!
After going through finance it's been 50 minutes since I'd arrived. I'd gone from not going to buy this one to being the new owner of a 2006 Prius!!! Yahoo!!! :D :D :D Went back around 6:30 to pick it up.

I'e been soooo busy at work I haven't even figured out yet, or had the time to read the manual, on how to keep the navigation system from trying to direct me back to the dealer's all the time!! I can shut her up though. :D

Alright Bob! Congratulations and good for you for getting something out of the dealer! Enjoy your new car. Are you planning on adding additional tinting to the windows or other mods?

Did you get the Nav option? Quick try the Nav override. Turn on the Nav hit I agree. Press the Menu button on the side. Hit the volume button on the screen, press the lower left corner. Do it again. You will get a screen. One of the choices is override. Do not experiment with the other options unless you are extremely knowledgeable about the system. Hold the screen button until it beeps and is activated. You will now be able to use the Nav system while driving, or not. Sorry there are rumors that Toyota has plugged this Easter Egg. Please let us know!

    Congratulations Bob!

I visited my dealer today and looked a White/tan #3 and a Silver/gray #7. At first I did not like the new dash material. But I was surprised when I touched the new textured surface...it's actually kind of soft if you push on it (at least the door panels were). What do you think about the changes?

I also checked out the new headlights/tailights....nothing to write home about..but nice changes. Thanks for posting your photos... your car looks great :)

Uncle Sam thanks you too... Is there anyone else lined up to give $2700 to the IRS?

I think you mean "Hit the volume button on the screen, press the upper left corner, then lower left corner. Do it again...

Yes, we would like that re-tested on the '06. No luck so far! :(

Congratulations! You got a great deal and she's a beauty.

Honestly though, thats the oldest BS car salesman trick in the book. They got you in the dealership for a rebate they couldn't possibly give you and put on a theatrical show for you, made you pity the salesman, and threw you a bone at the end. "I want you in this car" almost made me laugh out loud. Being in sales (not car sales, but sales) that really makes me sick, and its so unneccesary too.

I'd probably have said "$30,000 and I don't report you to Toyota or the Better Business Bureau for an unethical and illegal bait and switch" when asked for a number. BUT, I probably wouldn't have gotten the car LOL.

You got a good deal anyways at anything less than sticker, but I wouldn't trust those yahoos any further than I could throw them nor would I ever buy another car from them, or let their dealership do the service. Plenty of honest businesses to patronize.

We can tint a little darker in Arizona (legally) and it REALLY made a difference. The car looks a LOT nicer timted too. At least my son says it looks cool. I did it because it's cool'er. :) Of course, here we probably need it more than California.

Congrats on the 2006! And welcome to the group.

Hey, I know all the tricks. I bet you could ask most people here if anyone got a deal below sticker and I doubt many would be able to say yes. I suppose I'm just trying to say from everything I've read I was fully prepared to pay full sticker price. There was no bait and switch. If you remember I mentioned I was ready to play the 'game' again. I know all the tricks. Heck the finance person, who was trying to get her commission, was telling me how she's snookered (she didn't use that word, but that's what I heard) many Prius owners into buying the emergency roadside breakdown policy. It provides for free repair and hotel stays for a night, etc., etc. Just like the polyshield protection. Only the uninformed fall for those moneymakers. The white and gray was one of my choices. I had considered a new outside color. But how often do you ever see the outside of your car, except when your not in it. It is more important for me to have the inside color I wanted.

Right now I just find it comical. I'm a person who 'reads' manuals. I just haven't had the time. Heck, the Nav manual is only a little over 100 pages. If I can program Autolisp for AutoCAD I don't think I'll have problems. I just think it's going to be a couple months or so, because of everything on my plate right now, before I know how to operate everything. Hey I just bought a 42" Pansonic Plasma that I can't use until Jan. Have to wait for a the new HD receiver from Dishnetwork. Make that three months or more before I know what's what!

I'll now start making MP3 CD's. I'll never have to change them :D I've never owned a cell phone, but am seriously considering it just because of Bluetooth. I'm still using my garage door opener. Again no time to take the few minutes to find out how to use Homelink.

What do I know? I can program radio stations. I've figured out the following steering wheel buttons - radio station change buttons, volume, engine and gas consumption info, and temp control. I entered my home address as my home location. I'm just going to try to learn one new thing each day.

I did read the NAV display is much cleaner from some topic here. I drove a 2005 and I seem to remember it not being as good as this:

Congrats on the new Prius! I also got mine too, a 2006, Package 8, Silver Pine Mica.

I am not an employee at Toyota, but I work there, so I took advantage of a purchase program for contractors. I am so glad I did. I ordered it back in October when the pricing wasn't official. I didn't even know that the "Silver Pine Mica" would look like. At frist I was reluctant to get the loaded package, but now I am glad I did. I'm very happy with the car so far. I haven't had this much fun since driving my previous car, a Miata for the first time.

Congratulations! I've had my Prius for all of 17 days. I have read about 10% of the manuals, but I rarely need to pick them up now. It must be all that reading I've done on PriusChat :D

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a Rear Bumper Applique? I don't see anything on the rear bumper in your picture.

It's like a thin plastic covering that is on top of the rear bumper between the hatch closing and the face of the bumper that just says PRIUS PRIUS PRIUS PRIUS... What a stupid idea. I suppose it's to help prevent scratches. To me it looks uglier than any scratch would.
