Funny you should ask about the paint protection....we are having a clear bra and other selected areas, including the rear bumper, fitted on our car here in Brisbane next monday. From the demo of the product, it seems like a good thing.
Our car is also a magnetic bronze (gold) with ivory (but not leather) trim, as you appear to be considering. If you want to have a look, you are welcome...pm me and pass on some contact details so we can work out a convenient time if you want to.
I am negotiating discount prices for the clear bras etc for members of the Toyota Car Club here, so can let you know these too. The supplier/fitter is in Brisbane.

Re: your daily commute for work...nothing against the Supra, but the Prius will be a far more relaxing drive daily on the M1, quite apart from the fuel benefits. You will appreciate the quiet and smooth ride when you arrive fresh and relaxed after the M1 mayhem.
Are you getting the car on the Coast? We bought ours from Grand Motors, but mainly for availability reasons at the time (April '05).

    Regards, Sleeka.
    (John).

    Thanks John,

my contact number is 55818253 (w) or 55752657 (h). I would like to see your protection solutions.

I had problems with the sales manager at Grand Motors and ended up buying through Oldmac at Springwood. So far so good, but delivery remains at Feb so I'll leave my comments until later.

    John.
I'll contact you by phone next week after the job is done to arrange a time.

Say hi to Graham Oldham at Oldmac for me...known him from years back.
As I said re Grand Motors: they had the right car at the right time and price for us (immediate delivery!). They haven't contacted me since the sale, so I guess there is a message in that?

BTW, is the reversing camera offered in the '06 I-Tech pack for OZ? The '06 cars should be coming in to dealers anytime soon, as production in Japan changes to the next year's model in August/September in any year. Maybe if you ask the dealer nicely, they might let you have a quick look over a new model as soon as any stock arrives (even though they can't deliver your car for a while). Alternatively, dealers will switch over their demonstrator car to the '06 model as soon as practicable, so that might be an option to see one early if you want to.

    Regards,
    John L.

Mainframe, and welcome. We seem to be finally getting a few Aussies appearing in these forums.
What is the current waiting list time in Sydney? If you do decide to place an order, and change your mind about going through with the wait, at least there will be no problem backing out of the deal with the demand for Prius. Talk to a few dealers, though, as you may find a newly-appointed Prius dealer (not all Toyota dealers are Prius sales outlets) who has preferred stock levels and will have more cars available for order/sale.

    Regards,
    Sleeka.

Thanks, John, that answers a few questions about the new model. But what the hell is "Grege" colour for the upholstery?????
Have you had a firm price on an '06 I-Tech yet? Will be interesting to see how much they go up.

    Regards,
    John L.

    Hi all,

Toyota Australia has at last updated the Aussie Prius Web Site. You can also access it off www.prius.com.

Not much there as yet but they do promise that more info is due soon!

    hi everyone

found this website just recently. lots of accessories.

    http://www.sigmaautomotive.com/jdm/prius/prius0405.php

im looking at those front spoiler. looks great dont they.

    anyway..

just want to see if im alone here.
is it just me or does everyone here feel that their next vehicle will be a hybrid vechile?

ive been telling my friends how i want to order another prius next year and they think im crasy. but i just cant find any other car worthwhile. my budget is $80k.. can get an entry model european car.. but looking at the fuel economy of those. i just think its crasy that i should pay more for something that will eat more fuel everyday. 2-3 times more in some case...

ok. i can justify paying 30k more for a brand and bit of luxury... but paying 30k and then having to use more fuel in future.. just doesnt make sense...

    anyway. anyone with me??

    Hi all,

Anyone tried disabling the NAV System "can't use in motion" thingy. I've noticed in another forum a way the US people do it - but I'm on holidays at the moment in Perth so I can't try it out.

Getting my 10,000K service done, been averagine 4.6L/100km, sometimes down to 4.4L/100km. Although now have to fix a scrape (Prius 0 , Sandstone wall 1) behind the right rear tyre. :(

Anyone seen the new mod for Prius's to put Solar panels on the roof? Apparently gains 10% fuel effeciency. (that would take you down to 4.0-4.1L per 100kms). Wondering whether it can be applied to our Aussie models.

nice to see other fellow aussies around here :)

From Melbourne myself, and there are definitely a few prius owners around here Ive noticed.

Ive just recently become a proud owner of a 2004 Prius. Interestingly and appropriately, mine used to belong to the EPA :p It had a modification put in which apparently was only available to govt agencies back then, namely the curtain airbags....not that I plan to use these of course...

I'd like to share this little prius related story with you :
A couple of weeks before I got my prius, there was a 50s+ lady walking to her prius parked in front of an officeworks. I was just so excited to see one close up that I asked her if I could have a look inside. I didnt take into consideration that the sight of a 100kg, 6ft tall, middle eastern looking young man with shaved head and goatee may have seemed a but intimidating to the poor dear. She actually swiped at me with her handbag and told me to go away before she called the police ! :p

Since I first laid my eyes on the 2004 styling and interior, my getting a prius was a dead certainty. The fuel economy and environmental benefits made this decision *very* easy to make :)

Yes, there are a few Aussies showing up on this forum, and good to see, too! Just a pity that Toyota Australia couldn't get more stock from Japan so that the escalating waiting lists could shrink.

If it's not a sensitive question, how much did you pay for a used 2004? Is it a base or i-Tech model and how many km? It's probably an i-Tech if it has side airbags.

You shouldn't go around scaring LOLs like that. It might give Prius owners a bad reputation as aggressive and over-protective.

    Regards,
    Sleeka.

thanks for the welcome sleeka :)

I picked up my base model 2004 for 32,000 + costs. The EPA clocked 60,000 kms on it.
The extra airbags were added prior to delivery to the EPA, or so the dealer says :p
Theres a couple of 2004s floating around at about 35-6k mark with much lower kms. Always good to check carpoint.com.au and carsales.com.au. Thats where I spotted mine :)

I must admit, alot of the original prius owners here were concentrated in the well to-do suburbs. I proudy live in a working class area, and have seen a couple pop up in this area recently. Who said depreciation was a bad thing ??!! :p

One thing I will say with a degree of confidence, as our petrol prices rise, people will be falling over themselves to get a hybrid in the next 5+ years. I had a couple of friends giggle when I told them I was getting a prius, but when they saw mine, had a drive and saw the $$$ I was saving in fuel costs, are now trying to track one down themselves :) Im sure the wait lists will blow out here like they have in the US.... perhaps moreso

    Hi cupcake, sleeka

    You can get leather now?

I think the reverse camera is about time, if there is one annoying thing about the car is rearward vision, I think it's worth trading in my '05 just for that, so it's about a 4 month wait?

All I can say is it's well worth the wait

    Duck.
Long time no hear. Weren't you planning on updating at 12 months anyway?
There was an excellent post from Terry Dactil (another Aussie) recently on fitting a reverse camera to a Nav-equipped Prius at a cost of A$200 with all parts available here. Is that a proposition for you?
Yes, leather trim is now standard on I-Tech models, along with an updated Nav, new colours etc. Good to hear that resale is holding up very well.

    Regards,
    Sleeka.

Seems to be a US mod only. Like you, I followed the instructions to the letter, and got nowhere.
That price you paid certainly means that resale for properly looked after Prius will remain high. Good news!!
Are you interested in any accessories for your car? I'm sourcing slimline weathershields now, and probably will get mudflaps soon. Toyota have no intention of making them available, so if we want them, we have to make our own arrangements.

    Sleeka.
