2010 Prius IV with 80K miles to buy or not?

Have you compared the price to kbb.com, nada.com, edmunds.com, etc.? Sees awfully high for such a high mileage car.

 

Depends what you owe on the used cars ... if anything ... you need to figure out how much equity you have in your used cars, and then do the math.

You haven't given us anwhere near enough info.

That price is about right.

My 2011, "three," with 30k was appraised today by Carmax for $20.5k. And mine has none of the goodies that the four has.

 

I'd rather have a 2012 model 2 with 00 miles for $3500 more. 80k miles is equivalent to almost 7 years of driving. Assuming you drive 12k miles per year like normal people, a new 2012 would give you at least 6 more trouble free years...for the low low extra price of about $3500.

Pay less now and go for the used car...need to get a new car sooner. The more times you go into a dealer showroom, the more it costs in the long run.

Now if you wanna buy my 2010 two, with 17k miles, so I can justify upgrading to a PiP, just give me a call.

RUN - do not walk - away from that VW. It is a money pit from HELL. I will not and cannot recommend VW's to anyone as their quality is poor but their customer service is the worst I have ever experienced. Keep in mind that I love VW's (I have a 1981 TD rabbit and a 1985 Rabbit Cabriolet), but newer ones are problematic and VW is growing so fast that they don't care if they piss you off as a customer.

Same goes for Audi and their (VWAG - VW Audi Group) DSG's that are treated like a wear item and replaced like spark plugs at $6500 a pop - I owned a 2006 A3 with a failing DSG that the Svc. Mgr. CONFIRMED was going bad, but since there was no check engine light, wouldn't do ANYTHING until the car BROKE. - but that's another story for another day.

A good friend of mine has a 2007 New Beetle convertible with 55,000 miles on it. He told me that the thing shifted horribly and took it in for service. Dealer told him he needed a $5800 tranny replacement. I did some research and told him that VW had a service campaign (unofficial recall) on 2005 - 2008 VW New Beetles with the 6-sp automatic (not DSG). The dealer MISSED that. My friend is the Original Owner and still ives at the same address as when he bought the car. Oops, dog must have eaten the recall notice - VW wouldn't fail to mail the notice, now would they?

Once he was armed with that knowledge, the only thing that VW would do was replace the TCU (transmission control computer). Funny how he needed a $5000 transmission when he was paying for it but only needed a $2000 TCU when VW was paying. The service manager pulled him aside after he paid for the repair and told him to get rid of it as this repairs were not lasting - the beetles with new TCU's were coming back in with tranny failures after the fact and VW refuses to do anything about it.

Google new beetle tranny problems and then TRADE HER IN!!
