Isn't it still nice to get 50+ MPG with regular gas?

This is a good opportunity to see how many MPG you get without a recharge back home.

 

You need a longer cord; then you could leave it plugged in.

Here is another reason to invest in a L2 EVSE that's installed in your garage, the Toyota supplied EVSE would still be in your trunk

Agreed! I haven't done the same thing yet, but I'm sure I will eventually. Just having to pack/unpack it once per day makes the EVSE installed in my own garage almost worth it.

Is really like an L2 option at home because there are many times I'd like to go someplace but not to have to wait 2.5 hours for a full charge.

I've heard those things are expensive...even just the 110 volt models, and forget buying one from the dealer, upwards of $750 I am told.

 

Someone checked with the dealer for the Toyota one and I recall it was something like $1200 or $1500. If you're serious about getting an extra cable/EVSE, check out EVSE Upgrade - Products. They sell a Nissan Leaf EVSE/cable already modified for 110V/220V use for $979 and it has been confirmed that it will work with the PiP (I believe hill has one).

This is the option I would go with.

 

I have left my charging cable behind so many times, it drives me nuts.
Sometimes it was intentional, and then I regreted it later, sometimes I just forgot to grad it. Either way it's becoming a PITA and I can't wait to get my L2 hooked up.

You got that right! And lately I've been wanting shorter turn around times between charges. With L2 I can get back on the road with a full charge in half the time.

The price of any spare L1 pretty much exceeds the cost of a L2 charging station. Makes L2 a no-brainer.

 

My dealer quoted $1200.

I am waiting to find out if the $350 Chevy Volt (third time around) cable charges the PiP. (Watching here: http://priuschat.com/forums/toyota-...hevy-volt-110v-charge-cord-3.html#post1516358) Hoping it does. If not, I'll go the OpenEVSE route.

 

The Leviton L2 unit recommended by Toyota is only $870 plus $25 shipping. I ordered mine a week ago from Garrett's:

You might want to order the installation kit as well, comes with the bracket, outlet, and water resistant outlet cover

It's not needed for my situation, nor for many others'. The bracket is not needed for mounting, I don't need the outlet cover since the unit will be installed in my garage, and I already ran the 240V line to the outlet which I picked up at Home Depot along with a cut-in box for about $3. I could not justify paying $75 for the installation kit, when all I needed was about 3 bucks worth of its parts.

My total installed cost was $898 plus the cost of the breaker and some 12ga romex.
