Stanny, I believe the display audio unit (non ATP) is made by Denso which has close ties to Toyota. Can't help with the other questions but didn't see the one I knew answered either. W

Do you have any identifying information about the stock speakers that you removed? I'd like to do a little research to see just how bad they are.

I don't really believe the theory that the rears are meant to only pick up the lower frequencies, as they appear to be smaller speakers. I might believe on a more general level that the stereo (and I have a v Two and I've noticed also how bad the rear speakers are) is either wired or configured improperly.

I think the front door speakers are 6 x 9 (they are in mine). You either need a shallow 6x9 (hard to find) or mount them on the cover, not "in" the door itself.

The fronts are 6x9. The fronts have a proprietary mount that is riveted to the door and the speaker is permanently attached to the mount. If you drill out the rivets to remove the speakers/mounts then an aftermarket 6x9 likely will not fit because of mounting issues and clearance with the door panel or with the shallow space inside the door.

I upgraded my front and rear speakers with a 4 channel amp (with built in line out converter) this past weekend and the shop recommended going with 6x9 vs 6 1/2 rounds up front because I didn't want to add subwoofers now or in the future, and they felt I would get a better bass response with the 6x9's. However if you go by the install guides they say aftermarket 6x9's will not fit.

Short of having custom mounts fabricated the installer cut out the original speaker from the factory mount at the surrounds rendering the factory speakers unusable should I decide to go back to stock or try to sell on the bay. He was then able to attach aftermarket 6x9's to the original factory mounts, so that there are no clearance issues and looks completely stock with the door panel back on.
