Need some feedback from you guys who had the front windshield tint strip. I noticed that there are small dots in the center windshield just above the rear view mirror and wanted to have a tint strip installed to cut some heat and glare from the sun. Is it OK to have the tint over the dots or not? I have seen some priuses around and they just tinted the non dotted part of the windshield between the sides and the dotted center area.

It's okay to have the tint over the dots. My tint strip goes right over the dots and I haven't had any issues.

Me too. My tint installer didn't have any problems. There are a few dots with some lifting but overall it looks pretty good. Be sure to use a good quality film.

Got a window tinting service from a suggestion by a friend and they did a good job on my window!

other option is to put vinyl on the outside of the windshield. This is what I did. It provides a nice gloss finish which matches nicely if you have the sunroof. It looks like factory applied even up close.

Nine, I was thinking about that one too but I don't have the sunroof. :( Looks really great on yours.

For those who responded to my thread, I would like to say thank you very much. It helped me in my decision making. I went ahead and have the tint guys installed a 5% tint over the dots. Tint guy said they'ed done a lot of it too with no problems.

I had a 70% Wincos ceramic film installed on my entire windshield and it didn't turn out well. The raised dots prevented the film from adhering correctly to the glass so small air bubbles began pooling into bigger, very obvious blotches. Needless to say, it didn't look good. I suppose if the tint was much darker, it might not have been as noticeable - but obviously I can't put a 5% on the entire windshield. So, I ended up having my tint guy cut around the dots and it turned out great.

any decent tint installer with good film can tint over the dot matrix fine.

here's a close up of mine:

I think i'll have to go back to my tint place. The driver side is marginally ok over the dot matrix, but it looks like they didn't even try on the passenger side...suffice to say it's asymmetrical and not clean. Thankful for all the info this thread has provided.
