I just got mine done yesterday. Expect a tank in your MPG as they were doing something for a good amount of time that I had a lot of 0 mpg data.

Whatever it is they are doing to check the system, they leave the car on enough to account for over 15 to 20 minutes. Long enough for your car to record 0 MPG for a fair period of time. When you aren't driving, every minute on your fuel consumption shows 0 MPG, which affects the average MPG as eventually, it drains the battery and force the engine to kick in to get the battery to its proper state of charge. Any non-movement over a period of time == 0 MPG. And you will have to kick on the engine, I presume to test the actuators once they are in and nothing is leaking, which also means low MPG usage and some gas used.

I went in with a calced 42.5 MPG and when I left, it was 41.7 and the car's HV battery was at a low charged state.

Had the recall work done today. Took about 2 hours; no issues. My local dealership--Universal Toyota in San Antonio, TX has an OUTSTANDING service department. I highly recommend this dealership. If you're in SA and need a good dealership, you can't go wrong here. Ask for Marshall if you need service done on your vehicle; he'll take care of you.

Am I missing something...don't really see why this would be a problem...

Then don't worry about it... For those of us who are wondering why their MPG is tanking, it is due to the service for the one fuel up.

Wall street journal . . . they crack me up. What's normally called a 'service-buletin' by every one else except WSJ ... the WSJ has to call a, "Flaw in the Prius Exhaust System". Oh the drama. I'm still waiting for WSJ to make as much drama about AIG's collaps, causing U.S. taxpayers over 61 billion (plus bonuses to employees kept on). Think the day will ever come when they find such drama from one of there own?

Check the owner site and plug in your vin... It should kick back if you need to take your car in for the Service. I would say if you got your car before Jan 28th of 2012, there is probable chance your car may need the service.

Just had the exhaust gas control actuator replaced yesterday. I had received a postcard from the dealer and called to make an appointment. I was informed that they had to order the part, Tuesday, and that I could drop of the car Friday. They gave me a free loaner and it took about three hours before I was called that the car was ready.

Just a side note here but both our v purchased 2/21/12 are also recalled. My dealership claims that the recall just wants them to check them and not replace unless they failed the test. Our v3 needs one and is awaiting parts. The v5 is unchecked but going in next week. Both show a recall on Toyota owners. W

I purchased my vee Nov. 14, 2011 and took it in for it's first service checkup yesterday and knew nothing about the recall until the service technician advised me of it. They went ahead and replaced the exhaust gas control actuator and so far everything is fine even though it's only been a day. I took the car in at 10am and they were done by 2pm.

They also advised me to have my tires rotated at that time. When I picked up my car after having it serviced and took it home it dawned on me that I had not left them with my wheel lock key. I called the dealership to inform that I had the wheel lock key and wondered how they could rotate the tires. He said they had a master set of keys. I never knew that had these.

    BTW, I love this car.

There are "universal" wheel lock key sets availble. I believe that K&D and OTC makes these sets.

My vehicle falls under the above serial numbers and
I just called Toyota Canada and they don't have any recalls for Canada.

Toyota Canada rep. stated that US and Canadian vehicle are different.
Yes, they are different but if I'm not mistaken the recall components in US are the same as Canadian.

Are they trying to save on us? :-( or asking us to pay for the repair after the warranty expire?

    Update 11May12 6pm

Turns out we had our tires rotated (7 months & 1500 miles)
in addition to getting the Exhaust thing Recall.

Arrived at 8:45a for a 9am appointment today.
Said they had planned 3 hours for the recall Exhaust issue

Since this was their FIRST Exhaust recall repair... it must have been a learning curve thing. + the tire rotation.

The Toyota of Fort Worth shuttle picked us up at our home... around 3:45pm. 4pm at the dealership... at the cashier... only paper work.. ' no money exchanged '. All covered under warranty and 2 year service on 2012 vehicles.

It may have taken them a few hours longer to complete the Exhaust warranty work. Thats ok with us... Maybe their next warranty work will happen faster.

I received the SSC for my 2012 Cth, bought in Dec 2011.

I'm debating whether to have the service performed. Yes, I know it is "free" to me. Does anybody have practical advice, say

    -frequency of anticipated failure
    -rapidity of onset

I have a backup car I can use if the CTh needs to go in for repair, and I check fluids routinely and before long trips anyway. If I can convince myself the risk of the car dying during a long drive is avoidable I'd like to skip automatic repair. At least so long as Toyota/Lexus leaves the window open for repair if needed. For now they close the window in 2015.
