I am planning on purchasing Morimoto Elite HID Conversion Kit from TRS for 2012 Prius. Is it better to go with Canbus or Relay Harness? Please share your experiences. For instance, flickering, check warning lights, etc...

Andrew at TRS suggested to get the Canbus. Just be aware that you can have the ground wire shadow issue.

What is ground wire shadow issue?
I spoke to Andrew from TRS, and I suggested that I get relay harness because there is less chance of flickering. I am confused.
Do you have Canbus Ballast? Any issues?

Did he suggested you get the kit with the relay or you suggested to get the one with the relay? What did Andrew told you what to get? I have the Canbus with no issues so far.

Ground wire shadow looks like this in post #8. Need quick help on wiring for Morimoto 35w 9006 Elite HID kit install in 2011 Ford Edge!!

Been through this dilemma with Andrew & Matt @ TRS. The best outcome was to go with the heavy duty relay harness. It's an 80 amp per HID bulb. Easy install...
No flickering... I have 2 Morimoto Elite kits with relay... 1, for head lights & the 2nd for my retrofit projector fog lights...
    No qualms whatsoever...

Do you think you can show me some pictures of your installation? I know to use the fuse box for positive and the side fender for ground. But where did you place the relay and wires?

Any step by step guide with pictures is greatly appreciated. Thank you

Do a search on You Tube for:
Toyota Prius HID - How to Install HID Xenon 2010+

This is a great tutorial step by step. They use a different hid kit but, it's basically the same setup as the Morimoto Elite. Everything is pretty stealth. Enjoy!..........
TRS also has a install guide on their website with picture maps. Not actual pictures of install. Just diagrams of what wire goes and connects where......

Why would u need a canbus relay? Arnt those use in German cars that have the warning/check light &/or use the lowbeams as DRLs?

As far as my experience goes, the std relay harness will work.

Bought the CAN BUS kit but ended up bypassing the CAN BUS wiring harness. Had problems with my CAN BUS wiring harness connector to the main headlight connector. So far it is doing fine with no flickering issues. Relay not used - headlights are fused anyway. Had to buy the bulbs from xenon supply to remedy the return ground wire shadow.

hmmm. I really didn't think it was that bad at all. Let me know what you think about light color and output when you compare. Thanks!

The bulb I got with the morimoto kit was 5K and replaced with the 43K xenon supply bulb. Can't really tell the difference. Color from the 43K was even throughout as well as the 5K from TRS. Time will tell and will report any issues. Start up was very good with the morimoto 3 five ballast.

A flicker issue can be 1 of the following:

    1) lowbeam used as DRLs (not on Prius)
    2) loose ground wire (on relay harness)
    3) loose power wire (on relay harness)
    4) bad bulb(s)
    5) bad ballast

These are the most common causes for HIDs flickering.

PW, I would suggest that you buy the morimoto ballast and relay harness(I don't use a relay harness on mine - but get one just to make sure) and buy the bulbs from xenon supply. Make sure the bulbs has the same rating with your ballast. Meaning, don't buy a 55w HID bulb with a 35w ballast. I would go with the 3five ballast morimoto and a 35w 4300K HID bulb from xenon supply.
