The good news is, with the amount of miles I drive, it will take only 2.6 years to "pay back" versus a toyota matrix.
1) it is a shame you can't actually compare it to the car you currently own. 2) I am bummed there is not a Prius v to Venza comparison, I blame Obama 's nanny state for that <G> 3) I get 3.1 years payback with my numbers.
There is, just use the regular Vehicle Comparison and it gives you fuel use cost differences and you can make up any number you want. Guess your lov'in that Nanny State now. I like to plug in my Explorer V8 AWD (16 mpg) to my Escape Hybrid AWD (28 mpg) to my Prius III (50 mpg). A mini-Moore's Law trying to double my MPG every three years. Plug-in AWD in 2015 should get me to 90 mpg. I would call the US government numbers optimistic on the side of the hybrid with the 4.7 years to break even number. But that's OK, buying the higher mileage vehicle is to be encouraged.
Yeah, wish there were #1 and 2. I'm glad they compared the Prius to the Matrix instead of a Corolla. They should create pages for "payback" on BMWs and items like sunroofs, V8 engines and leather seats.
