How to display tire pressures on a C?

My manual says I should be able to display my tire pressure. My audio manual gives the instructions but apparently my audio system doesn't match the manual. Can the pressure be displayed? This is for a C4 btw.

    Oldwolf,

I was going to answer "Your 2005 doesn't have the TPMS" (based on the car under your screen name), but then I saw you wanted to blow it up with C4 (explosives). Just kidding!!

I did notice in your signature block that you have a new Prius c, option level 4 [so new, in fact, that you have only done one fill-up so far (if that info is current)]. I'm sorry, but I can't answer your question for you because I'm not familiar with the "C".

If I were to replace my 2005 with anything it probably would be a 2012 model Prius v (wagon)---NOT an option level V or five of the standard Prius. But once I get a close look at the "c" or get a chance to test drive one, the "c" could be in the running too.

By the way, (if your fill-up count on your 2005 is current) do you only have about 22,400 miles on your 2005? [56 (fill-ups) x 400 miles (average tank range) = 22,400]?? I presently have 127,000 miles on my 2005. What a difference that would be if your fill-up count is accurate!!

For now, let's leave the answer about the TPMS ability to be displayed up to some of the techies here. Maybe it can't be displayed as stated in the manual, because sometimes a single manual is written for more than one country. For instance, in the past, one manual applied to all of North America (as in the written mention of Daytime Running Lights on the 2G). Canada was given them, but the USA didn't have them, so a lot of USA owners were wondering why they wouldn't work as described in the manual. Maybe that's the situation here in regards to the TPMS display procedure.

I picked up my C4 on Saturday, put .5 gallons in it and the dispenser nozzle clicked off. The dealer had filled it up for me, but I needed some data to get Fuelly.com started on my new C.

My Prius Gen II, on the other hand, just rolled over 40,000 miles. I bought it from my Father In Law who didn't drive it much. When I got it last year, the odometer read less than 17k. So, the Fuelly.com data only reflects the miles I have personally put on it.

Hopefully, someone who has figured out how to display the TPMS data will chime in soon.

Re: How to display tire pressures on a C?

Nope, I don't think there's any way to display the tire pressure on any of the Prius.

If you could, it would be under the vehicle information screen.

The manual for that section is generic for several models of Toyota. The hybrid Camry XLE with premium HDD Nav that I briefly had displayed the tire pressure by tire. (LOVED that feature.)

The Prius four with premium HDD Nav that I'm getting does NOT display the tire pressure by tire. It only has the standard Toyota TPMS that displays a "dummy light" if the tire pressure gets critically low. It won't even tell you which tire, and by the time the tire is critically low it might well be too damaged to repair.

It would be interesting to know if the same sensors exist on the Pri as that hyCam, and if they are just not wired up to output the display. That would be a hack that I would love to have.

it's probably the same exact sensors.. but i don't know how to display the sensor readings on any of the displays in the C... i might be something special on the C3 or C4.. and if it's Audio manual.. then it's probably possible only on that particular headunit..

i'd have to look it over.. but i can't imagine why they'd mention it in the manual if it's not possible... you might want to check the details to see if it is indeed for the headunit you have... if not, then you might not be able to display it.

This is the excerpt from the manual that show how to view tire pressures.

However, my head unit does not look exactly like the one pictured.

In my C, when I push "CAR", the display goes immediately to the fuel consumption bar chart. Maybe there is something in the head unit setup that needs to be turned on to view tire pressures. Or, it can't be done.

This might help. Looks like there is no way to view the tire pressure for each individual tire.

The system can read the exact pressure because I see it when I use the Techstream. It is a puzzle as to why it wouldn't be a display item on the MFS....at least as far as I have seen. My gauges always vary a few psi so always in doubt, but no need to be a perfectionist I suppose.

The Prius TPMS, at least through Gen 3 (I haven't looked into it for Gen 4) can show you the pressure and temperature at all four sensors, according to the registered sensor IDs, but it doesn't know which sensor ID is at which corner of the car, so unless you keep track of that (and update your notes with each tire rotation), you don't know which pressures it's showing you go where.

The designers of the user-interface screens probably threw up their hands at that and decided there wasn't really a way to make a screen displaying that in a way most people would understand.

Ahhh...good point. And if one is worried about having ANY low tire the warning light comes on so that suffices. Thanks for that info! Oh, then do I understand correctly that there is no way to see that TPMS data using the MFD...only Techstream?

I don't know that for sure, but I bet nobody on the design team thought a screen to tell you that the pressure is 34 psi for sensor 3F70946 would be a hit with customers.
