Finally got a chance to test the car on long trips. We took a trip to Oregon cost, drove to Newport using US 101 and came back on I-5. Round trip over 700 miles

Filled the tank at the beginning, drove to Astoria and drove around the area, nex day went to Cannon beach, Tillamook, Newport. Spent 2 day at Newport driving around.
On the way home, we stopped for gas in Albany. Drove 446.7 miles per trip computer and averaging 47 mpg. Put 10 gallons, hand-calculated mpg=44.8.

The drive was down I-5 South with speed limit 60-70 with moderate hills. Was using cruse control all the time.
US 30 and US 101 speed limit is 55 mpg with steep hills. Had to use power mode to maintain the speed limit. You see the mpg dipping on those hills, but going down the hill you get it back.

On the way home I got 53.2 mpg driving I-5 North from gas station in Albany to Vancouver, WA. 70 some miles stretch of the flat road with speed limit 65. Dropped to 49's once hit hilly I-5 north of Columbia River.
    Still have ½ tank left

Meet fellow V driver going north on US101 -blue ribbon. Anybody?

Hypermiling Techniques: I find trying to glide in a v to be an exercise in futility, the sweet spot for zero arrows is razor thin, at least on the predominantly flat roads I drive on. Instead, I pulse and 'single-bar' until I need to pulse again.

And yes, the numbers on the dashboard display are 3-5 mpg higher than my own calculations.

I make a drive from Orange County to Las Vegas quite a bit (1-2x/month). The 1-way trip is 268 miles and used to take 4 hours (15 min rest stop in barstow) in my old car. The cruise control was set at 82 when possible.

I made the first drive out there 3 days after I recevied my Prius. The driving time went up to 4.5 hours. I decided to keep the speed around 70-75. The gas mileage going there was 37.3 and coming back was 46.7. A/C was on almost all the time. I turned it off going up most of the hills. I also practiced gliding on the way back. I'll need to make a few more drives before I can determine if the change in mpg was due to me or the actual trip.

Before I bought the Prius, I was worried I'd end up in the 'slow' truck lane. But the Prius is a champ and performed exceedingly well.

Now, if we can only get the truck drivers not to switch lanes when a car is coming up at 75 mph when they are going 40, life would be good.

It's been about 2 weeks since we've had our v. At the beginning, we were getting 38.8 mpg. It's since climbed to 41.7. I have to say, I'm pretty envious of the people here claiming high 40's and even 50's.

We just bought our v a week ago, and I think we're going to land in the 41-43 range at our next fill-up. My commute to work is fairly short, and involves a little bit of hills and climbing up on-ramps to the highway and then getting right back off a couple exits down.

Overall still fun, except parallel parking this thing feels weird. It's actually shorter than my old Honda Accord but the visibility looking backwards and the feel of the car are very different.

Switching from the studded snow tires back to the stock tires raised our mileage from 38 to 45. Plus it is much quieter riding...:)

90 miles @ 75 mph, 200 miles @ 60 mph, the rest @ about 40 mph. i did not drive my prius to save gas. i drove it like normally do. usually heavy foot on the gas, and sudden stops. it was driven in normal mode w/the air off, windows open. when it got too hot i turned the air on. also when i got gas (it was a new gas station) i set the pump handle (automatic shut off) walked away to clean the windshield came back, and the gas was all over the ground, it never shut off. there had to be a 1/2 gal on the ground, at least. i won't give this car up anytime soon.

I've had my Prius V for just over a month now. I have 3200 miles on it and split between freeway and city is pretty even. South Orange County is hilly and I've been averaging about 33mpg. Computer says 35.8, fuelly says 33.914.
