    Folks,

I just purchased a 2012 Prius 2 and am looking to get an AM nav + backup camera installed. I see a lot of discussions and pictures for previous models, but not sure if that applies to 2012 since the 2012 model has a dash that shows consumption / energy etc..

Any tips on any specific models for 2012? I'd love to take a look before I buy, and am assuming that I can check these out retail before pulling the plug? I live in the bay area, so if you can also point me to some reputable shops that can install it for me, I'd appreciate that.

    Thanks, all!

Nicest/easiest I saw was on Prius C forum about a rear view mirror that has a backup camera which is wireless on the back plate.

For the Nav, get a Garmin and a nice mount. You'll save a lot of money and, certainly with the Garmin, have a much better product. The Toyota nav is barely functional.

Take a look at adcmobile.com they have several selections, including the Rosen unit. I selected the Advent unit, but they all appear to have been made at the same Chinese factory.

After heavy research, this is exactly what I did, and have no regrets. Garmin (Nuvi 1490T) is by far the best/user-friendly option; a good mount directly under the rearview mirror is perfect. Hardwire the power along the headliner. This way you 1) retain all of the original radio function - most importantly - the excellent hands free capability/quality, 2) you can view the Garmin and radio functions simultaneously, not one or the other. I have a new Kenwood DNX 9960 sitting in the attic, and almost went with the custom install route, but in the end you do loose quality, especially now that there is a wired/integrated Sat option available (re. thread). Only thing that I do not have now is the ability to view DVD's, but in reality, I never really used this function with my Kenwood.

That should work for me - 2 questions though:
    * Can the base system accomodate an aftermarket backup camera?
    * For the power for a garmin, it still needs to be routed to the charger at the bottom right? Can you clarify how you this?

I believe it can take an aftermarket camera, but can't say for sure. We 2012 PII are just now learning what we can do as far as stock HU upgrades (dealers are no help), much like with the recent documentation for the Sat integration. Other 2012 PII owners in Canada and Europe have the camera with the same (appearance) HU, I believe it is just a matter of time before a member posts on success, if not already done.

Yes, and you will need to use the supplied Garmin cord, especially if it has "traffic" integrated in, Here's how I generally did it:
    1) Local Auto Store and purchase a female cig lighter receptacle with wired leads.
    2) Push onto Garmin male plug (you have basically created exposed leads without opening the Garmin plug, therefore retaining use of the internal fuse, no harm to cord)
    3) Pull out lower cig lighter panel (pops out) splice pos/neg lead wire, or tap into a fuse location
    4) Run lead wire under dash up and under front windshield pillar trim (either side) to center overhead panel
    5) Remove front most overhead panel (small one closest to windshield - pops out),
    6) Place gaming cord in space, connect Garmin leads to feed power wire, leaving enough cord towards windshield to reach mounted unit.
    7) Button up everything

Can you link the rear view mirror with backup cam from the prius C thread? I searched and did not come up with anything. Thanks!

I didn't mark the thread as bought a III instead but look on C section and ask over there or try the search.
