You know when you take your foot fully off the accelerator and push it back slightly to get into EV mode? Ok, let's say when you're already going up to speed and using the gas engine, if you back off the pedal into the EV region on Eco Score screen does it initiate EV for you? I'm not sure but I recall when it went into the EV region (again, without having to fully take foot off accelerator) it used to send me into EV automatically, but now to get into EV I have to take my foot off pedal and then repress (of course it was also dependant on the speed which EV could kick in). Was I just imagining things or does EV not automatically engage for the situation without having to take foot fully off the accelerator (as long as it enters the EV region)?

In my experience with the prius c, it'll transition to EV without taking the foot all way off the gas pedal. Sometimes it may seem like it is aligned with taking the foot off the pedal because in most cases that will put it in EV. However, its not by any means the only way it transitions to EV from ICE.

Should I be worried if noticed that behaviour is no longer happening on mine?

Mine varies a lot in regards to where EV will kick in. Sometimes it's right under the line, sometimes nearly all the way off, and sometimes I have to completely let off. Sometimes it refuses to kick on at all, and it's really frustrating, only because I can't figure out why. I'm sure the computers have a reason, though.

Thanks for the replies! Mine hasn't kicked on like it did automatically when reaching anywhere in the EV region (until foot off pedal to engage EV manually) since I chopped off the first two bars from the fuel gauge and I'm on my last 3 bars so I couldn't tell. I did notice ever since that happened my car gas been guzzling the bars pretty fast (but I guess it's related since EV wasn't kicking in).
If anyone else wants to chime in feel free, I'd like to learn more about this.

If the ICE and emissions system isn't fully warmed up, or you're running the HVAC and not in ECO mode, it may hang onto the ICE more than you like.

Oh, and if the battery is low, like 5 bars or less, the engine will work harder to charge it!

I use a gradual acceleration style, which looks somewhat like a logarithmic graph, no hard accelerations.

Thanks, that was a good read

I've only been using Eco mode, but when I use the a/c I sometimes adjust for the 2 lowest fan settings or alternatively use auto (the temp is set to either 24/25 celcius). I've tried seeing if it made any difference having the batts fully charged and I still don't see the auto transitioning to EV like when I first drove it, been having to manually do it by taking foot off pedal. I've tried seeing if it made any difference at diff speed increments but so far it hasn't happened again where as in the beginning it took no effort to trigger. I don't feel as if I've been doing anything much different since then but there must be since it's not happening. I usually drive for around 50 mile distances mostly flat terrain. I think I'll try a few different driving styles to see if it can trigger again. Maybe I'm too concious of it now unlike when I first drove it making me drive in a manner that does not set it off.

I just have to say that this car is so awesome I've already done about 478miles and there is still 2 bars left on the fuel gauge!

Heh, after a couple of years the release and press has become so natural for me I rarely see the automatic changeover anyways!
