I am comparing the Prius to the Prius C. My current vehicle is a Chevy Astro van. With my van I can throw a couple bicycles in the back. If I purchase a Prius C I will not be able to do that. Is the cargo area when the back seat is on the regular size Prius big enough for a couple bikes?

If neither model is really big enough to put bikes back there it's not a problem because I can always use a rack that hangs on the rear (I have one that I use my wife's Scion xA when I don't use the van). But if the bigger Prius (not the V) does have enough room it is a point in its favor over the C.

If u are asking if u can fit a full size bike in the Prius hatch with the back seats up, then no. I have to fold the rear seats down and can stack at least 2 adult road/mtn bikes easily.

Yes, I was talking about with the back seats down. That's good to hear. I think the C even with the back seats down can not fit a bike or two in that area. That could be one more point in favor of the regular model. Although most likely I would probably use a rack that hangs from straps on the outside of either car.

A single road bike easily fits in a Prius hatchback. I roll it in, front wheel first, tipped on it's side, while holding the seat and the rear seat stay.

But loading a second bike on top would be tricky, since the rear opening is only 25 inches tall. It would take two people, one at the back door and one at the hatch. You'd have to be very careful if you didn't want to scratch the bike's paint.

Hatchback here, I remove the front wheels and easily(properly padded) put two road bikes and an electric bike in, I'd take a bike to the "C" and try it before I buy it.

Use a rack if you're going to carry more than one bike in back. I have put my road bike on it's side in the back of the Prius, front wheel off. Mountain bike same. But not two bikes, unless you put plenty of padding between them. Probably the same goes for the c. Don't know if anyone makes a hitch for the c yet, but they do for the hatchback. I use a hitch mounted Thule Helium. It's aluminum mostly which makes it light, easy to slip on and off, and carries 3 bikes. They make a 2 bike model as well.

There are many other bike racks out there that will work just fine with Prius.

Yes, you would have to put padding in between the stacked bikes, but you would have to do the same in any other car.

I still recommend a rack though. I hate removing the cargo cover and possibility of scratching inner panels or rear bumper.

Yes, two bikes fit, though padding in between is advisable. I've been doing it for three years. Or 26 years, if one counts the smaller Accord Hatchback (and slightly larger Subaru wagon) preceding Prius.

That said, I put a hitch receiver on it last week, but haven't use a bike rack yet.
Tork Lift now has hitches for all of today's Prius variants, c included.

Speak for yourself - some of us are tall, and have larger bikes to fit us. Our bikes only barely fit even with the front wheel removed...
